The Reds are going no where. Cubs need some bats. How about this deal?

Reds get:

Rich Hill

Matt Murton

Scott Eyre

Cubs get:

Adam Dunn

Javier Valentin

Cubs add a wonderful bat in Dunn and get a catcher that's better than what we currently have. The Reds get Hill and a replacement outfielder in Murton. It's become evident that Murton has no place in Chicago. The Reds take Eyre to help even out salaries, though the Cubs are still taking on some money in the deal.

The Cubs will have to find a starter to replace Hill.

The deal could be tinkered to include another prospect moving from the Cubs if the Reds would take Jones instead of Murton.

if it means anything, on mlb 2k7 i somehow got the reds to accept a trade of murton + dempster for dunn and stanton. if that went through, i don't see why this couldn't go through.

Not only is that really good for us, I think the Reds just might do it. It would lead to Dempster sliding into the rotation, but it would be worth it.

Where do I sign?

really don't want to give up Hill and Murton for a rental.

Is he a free agent after this year or after 08? (dunn)

he becomes a free agent if traded.

Ok then I agree. For this trade to happen dunn would probably have to sign an extension (i'd make him if I were hendry).

The Cubs cannot sign an extension with Dunn because of the ownership change, just the same as they tried to sign the extension with Z and were denied.

Hendry and Lou would've had to shown a glimpse that they covet the strengths of Dunn (raw power, ability to draw walks) overcome his weaknesses (defense, speed, long uppercut swing, inability to make consistent contact) to the point where they'd include someone with the value of Hill to get that.

It'll never happen, too many people in that front office like Hill and value those weaknesses of Dunn while calculating the good he could bring.

I would still prefer Griffey

Why? That's a disappointment waiting to happen

I would rather add someone to hit behind Ramirez, where Dunn should be used as a #2 hitter. Griffey would be a better hitter behind Aramis, so thats who I would rather have.

In what world should a guy who hits 40 homers every year and can't do anything a number two hitter is supposed to do hit second instead of fourth?

In the world of .377 career OBPs.

I actually like Dunn hitting 3rd though.

I'd take Griffey as well. It's no secret that I love Dunn. Either of those players in RF would look good on the Cubs down the stretch.

Furthermore, I'd much rather have Valentin behind the dish than the two inept bozos we've been running out there.

The same guy who will drive in very few runs not via the HR. His hr production will not drop hitting 2nd and his OBP is far more valuable than having him strike out with runners on base. Dunn should be used for scoring runs more so than driving in runs.

What's going on with soto lately? Do Hendry/Piniella not think he's ready?

Why not 4th? You have the R-L-R order and a ton of OBP for Ramirez, who has always been our best RBI guy
