Still no Pie.

Maybe we should send him back down.

If this little breather lasts through the break, then definitely.

Lou seems to think the bench time helped Riot - said his bat looked slow so he gave him a few days off. He is probably thinking the same thing will work with Pie.

The difference of course is Theriot doesn't really have much of a future, he's either going to stick as a utility guy or not. There's no need to try and get him over slumps by playing. Plus, he never sat 4 days in a row. He had a week where played every other day. Pie is pretty much the 25th man.

jones is closer to 25th man status than pie right now. guarantee pie comes in to pinch hit/run before jones.

That said, he needs to be starting again.

oh i don't disagree with that.

I have no problem sitting Pie with Aramis out of the lineup today. Felix is in a terrible slump and, right now, Angel is a better offensive player. However, I think Pie should be in the lineup tomorrow.

Pretty hard to get out of your slump, when you havent started in 4 days. Hes a young kid, and is going to have slumps like this, but that doesnt mean he should be relagated to Lous coffee getter.

In Lou's defense, the same mentality that's keeping Pie out of the lineup are also keeping Jock and Iz-sucksatbaseball-is out of the lineup.

Not really. The mentality that keeps Izturis and Jones on the bench is they are proven failure who offer nothing to the team now or in the future. While Pie is a kid who may have a future if he works through struggles.

Lou is trying to help Pie work through his struggles, only not in games. He's got him working on a "toe tap" move in the cage and in batting practice to keep him from "twisting" too much. Identifying and attempting to solve problems are things that weren't done here with young players the last few years.

Well thats good to hear that Lou is working with him, and not just letting him try work through it on his own. When you say "toe tap" are you meaning Sosa style or different?

I think Lou has Pie's best interest in mind (as well as that of the team). The Cubs have already committed themselves to keeping Felix on the roster but they have to pick and choose offense over defense some days. When most everyone else in the lineup is clicking, they can absorb the lack of offense at catcher and CF but the offense has been inconsistent overall and now Aramis is getting a day of...

Plus, Lou said that Gerald Perry has been working with Felix so it's not like he's been just sitting and stewing, they are trying to help him make adjustments.

With our shortstops and catchers on this roster, that is very unlikely to happen ever.

Something similar. It was hard to follow Lou's dance step when he was demonstrating it in the dugout.

I disagree. DeRo can play SS too and Riot goes through hot streaks where he can be productive offensively.

I wont call DeRo a SS untill he plays more than a half game there. Im guessing if Lou really thought he could handle it everyday, the move would have been made.

Go CUBS !!

I think Lou has Pie's best interest in mind (as well as that of the team). The Cubs have already committed themselves to keeping Felix on the roster but they have to pick and choose offense over defense some days. When most everyone else in the lineup is clicking, they can absorb the lack of offense at catcher ands CF but the offense has been inconsistent overall and now Aramis is getting a day of...

Plus, Lou said that Gerald Perry has been working with Felix so it's not like he's been just siting and stewing, they are trying to help him make adjustments.

With our shortstops and catchers on this roster, that is very unlikely to happen ever.

I disagree. DeRo can play SS too and Riot goes through hot streaks where he can be productive offensively.

I wont call DeRo a SS untill he plays more than a half game there. Im guessing if Lou really thought he could handle it everyday, the move would have been made.

DeRo has been taking ground balls there for over a month. If Lou didn't think he could handle it, he would have taken him (or Fontenot) out of the game.

Yea him taking ground balls there means nothing. Zambrano takes pop flies in the Of too, so what? If Lou really trusted him there, he would have played more than a half game over the course of a half a season at that position.

Something similar. It was hard to follow Lou's dance step when he was demonstrating it in the dugout.

DeRosa credits a toe tap for improving his hitting last season. Is it something similar to that?

I don't want to argue because this has nothing to do with the original thought about Pie's struggles... DeRosa has proven to be very versatile and it wouldn't surprise me to see him play SS again but, even if he never played there, it has nothing to do with Pie's lack of offense. Theriot will probably see the majority of time at SS and he's putting up (slightly) better numbers than Pie.

Also, it's not like Pagan has been stealing at-bats from Pie. Pagan is producing a .797 OPS in 89 ABs to Pie's .626 OPS in 137 ABs. In a limited role, Angel can be productive and he deserves to play (Plus, he had 2 hits last night). The Cubs are sacrificing defense for offense.

Pie will get plenty of opportunities to play.
