I propose we start a designated soul list. Given the undisputable evidence that God will trade cubs wins for NSBB souls, we must oblige.

Game Notes.

WALK-OFF WIN: Chicago yesterday stretched its season-high winning streak to 7 games, and erased a 5-0 deficit after the first half inning to defeat the Brewers, 6-5 … the Cubs bullpen tossed 6.0 scoreless innings and Aramis Ramirez hit a 2-out, 2-run ninth inning homer off Francisco Cordero for their 13th come-from-behind win this year … it was Chicago’s first game-ending homer that erased a deficit with 2 outs in the final inning since August 3, 1997 when Sammy Sosa hit a 2-run homer in the 12th off L.A.’s Todd Worrell to give Chicago a 4-3 win.

Chicago is 9-4 in games decided by 2 or fewer runs since June 7 after a stretch that saw them go 2-9 in that situation from May 10-June 6.

Yesterday marked the 12th time this season that Chicago’s bullpen has tossed at least 3.0 shutout innings a game … the club is 7-5 in those situations, but is 6-0 since June 4.

WE’RE GOING STREAKING!: The Cubs 7-game winning streak is its longest a 7-game run May 27-June 2, 2005 … Chicago is aiming for its first 8-game winning streak since a 12-game streak May 19-June 2, 2001.

The team’s 7-game winning streak is the longest current streak in the majors … Seattle is second with a 6-game winning streak.

MARSHALL LAW: Since his recall May 22, Sean Marshall’s 2.44 ERA (12 ER/44.1 IP) ranks sixth-best among N.L. pitchers … today’s opposing starter, Ben Sheets, is fifth with a 2.15 ERA (11 ER/46.0 IP) in that span … Marshall has allowed 9.74 baserunners per 9.0 innings of work since May 22, the seventh-best mark in the N.L.

Chicago has won each of Marshall’s last 5 starts since June 3 vs. Atlanta … he has a 4-0 mark with a 2.32 ERA (8 ER/31.0 IP) in that stretch, allowing 2 or fewer earned runs in 4 of those starts.

Dating to September 12, 2006, the Cubs have gone 8-2 over Marshall’s last 10 starts while the lefty has a 5-2 record with a 3.77 ERA (24 ER/57.1 IP) in that timeframe.

More from the game notes....

TOP-NOTCH JUNE: The Cubs’ 17 June victories are the most in N.L. and tied for the M.L.-lead with Los Angeles (AL) and Seattle … Chicago’s .630 winning percentage (17-10) this month ranks second in the Senior Circuit behind Milwaukee (.640), and fifth-best in the majors.

The Cubs are looking to win 18 games in a month for the first time since going 19-8 in September of 2003.

Alfonso Soriano leads the N.L. and is second in the majors with a .700 slugging percentage this month … he also leads the majors with 11 home runs while his 40 hits lead the N.L. and his 5 outfield assists are tied for the lead with Jeff Francoeur and Aaron Rowand.

Chicago’s 3.57 ERA (96 ER/242.1 IP) is second in the majors this month, behind San Diego’s 3.28 mark.

BREAKING THROUGH: The Cubs, at .500 (39-39) for the first time since they were 16-16 on May 10, look to move 1-game over .500 for the first time since they were a season-best 1-game over at 16-15 on May 9 after a 1-0 win vs. Pittsburgh.

The last time Chicago was 1-game over .500 this late in a season was on August 3, 2005, when they fell to 54-53 after a 4-3 loss in Philadelphia.

NO SHORTAGE OF POWER: Alfonso Soriano leads the majors with 11 home runs this month … he is just the 10th Cub ever to hit 11 home runs in month and the first not named Sammy Sosa since Ryne Sandberg hit 14 in June of 1990 … Sosa accomplished the feat 15 times between May of 1994 and July of 2003.

The last Cub to hit 12 home runs in a month was Sosa, who hit 13 in July of 2003.

My wife and I regularly go to church, but if it helps we'll srart going evenings too. Also, my wife takes credit for this streak. We were there the 3rd and the Cubs won 10-1; right after the brawl and ejection, so she thinks we jump started them to a good month. I don't know about that, but it makes me love her more that she believes that. Go Cubs!

i know bowen is slumping over the ;ast few games, but i feel more comfortable with him starting consistently.

Actually, he's been slumping since he got traded to the Cubs. He's only hitting .063 as a Cub.

Absolutely stellar.

Which happens to be the same thing. He's only played 5 games for the Cubs-the first one he played quite well in, and the last 4 he hasn't played well.

Not too bad. Bowen can't hit and Pagan is hitting better right now than Pie. Me like.

Where can I find that link to the go cubs go song? It's totally stuck in my head and I want to hear it before the game starts.

So I jsut seen the headline that Petrick got sent down for Cherry?? Petrick was tearing it up..why would they send him down?

The Cubs needed another pitcher for the ballgame, and Petrick both has options and is unavailable today so he became the logical choice to send down.

Ken Rosenthal just reported on FOX pregame that Zambrano becoming a FA is more and more likely. He's apparently made it known he will no longer take the hometown discount deal which was 5 years/80 million. Said to expect the Yankees to be at the front of the lone for his services.

Is it just me or is Pie close to a send down, he has been getting less and less starts.
