Sucks that we can't gain ground in the Wild Card today. But all the Cubs need to do is keep winning and they will be in a good position when its all said and done.

Yes we will.

The padres and dodgers are tied. Winner leads division. Loser leads wild card. (Unless dbacks win, but then we'd gain 1/2 game instead of a whole game).

We are guaranteed to be no more than 5.5 back after today.

So, who am I supposed to root for between the Padres and Dodgers?

root for the padres cuz the cubs dont play them anymore and lost the season series...at least they got three more against the dodgers at wrigley

Royals win, 8-1 over the White Sox.

1 game behind them for 4th place. 5 game winning streak for the Royals.

I think there was some mention of this in one of the other threads in the game thread forum, but I could be wrong.

With the Cubs' luck, the day the Brewers finally lose, the Cubs will turn around and lose too, just watch.

Colorado takes an 8-7 lead into the ninth, gets the first two outs, walks Carlos Lee, and serves up a tater to Mark Freaking Loretta, Stros win 9-8.

I'm starting to really feel bad for Colorado. (Of course not for games 4-6 of their losing streak, but still...) 4 of their 8 losses in this streak have been of the walk-off variety. 3 blown saves and the extra-inning affair last night.

They're 8 games through a ten game roadtrip to Toronto, Chicago, and Houston, immediately after sweeping the Yankees to win 20 of 27, and they're now 0-8 on what surely projected to be a successful roadtrip.

Barrett is 1/2 tonight with an RBI.

I'm not sure they should let the Chris Young-Barrett combination happen much though. It's simply too easy to take bases from both of them. Look at what has happened tonight:

1st-Pierre singles, steals 2nd base, steals 3rd base, scores on a groundout

Russell Martin walks, advances to 2nd on the groundout, and then steals 3rd base.

2nd inning-Dodgers go down 1/2/3

3rd inning-Furcal singles, steals 2nd base, scores on a single

Pierre standing on 2nd gets to 3rd because of a balk

So 4 stolen bases and a balk already through 3 innings, and two of those were steals of third base.

Now-don't get me wrong, Chris Young gets the majority of blame-he was 2nd in the league entering the game with 20 stolen bases given up with 0 caught on the season-so he's allowing 1.25 stolen bases per start. Because Young is so bad though, it's not a good idea to have Barrett be with him, or else teams will simply run at will like they have so far tonight.

Of course, the most shocking and ridiculous part of the whole thing is that Pierre was on base twice in the first three innings

And another stolen base for Pierre.
