... without trading Philip Hughes. Hmmm....

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6938410

Here's what he suggests: "The Rangers, on the other hand, could make a quality deal if they landed, say, Cabrera (Melky), plus Wright (Chase) or Chamberlain (Joba), plus another decent pitching prospect."

While I don't claim to be an expert on the Yankee system, it seems to me that the Orioles, Angels and Dodgers could all provide Texas with better prospects near major-league ready.

Last year about everyteam in baseball could have given the Phillies more for Abreu. Somehow he ended up on the Yankees.
It is in baseball's best interest for the Yankees to be chasing the Red Sox. He will be a Yankee.

If the Yankees get value for Melky I'll be pissed. He's not good. Yet that 97 win team is able to throw him out there for 500 PA last year, get mediocre results and everybody talks about him like he's a solid player worthy of inclusion in any trade. A 67 win Cubs team wouldn't be able to find space for such a guy because they have too many veterans who deserve the playing time, but they'd probably burn through his options and start playing him more and more the worse he gets.

Considering past trades Texas has made, this one would fit right in.

I'm sure we have some spare parts we can offer up for Michael Young.

BBB raises an excellent point, which reminded me of something a source of mine said earlier this year. Many like to make fun of Jim Bowden around here, but my source told me that the dumbest GM in baseball unequivocally is Jon Daniels of the Rangers. "Definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer by any stretch." My source, who happens to scan Tim's site here on a regular basis, told me just by reading some threads here that there are at least 100 posters, who would be better than Daniels on philosophy alone.

I was only joking about the spare parts for Michael Young. But hey, I'm willing to be serious about it if they are. :D

Do the Rangers have someone to replace Texiera at 1b?

If not, I think I would try to get James Loney from the Dodgers.
