Marshall has too much potential to give up in this deal, even if it meant moving Jones. Another pitching prospect maybe. Griffey has an injury history, but his bat would make the lineup formidable with him hitting between Lee and Ramirez.

I'd consider giving up Guzman, but not Marshall.

Why would they want a guy with elbow problems?

If he can throw a pitch out of the bullpen, Krivsky wants him. He's got a fetish.

if griffey's price is reasonable im all for going out and getting him because he is having a good year

but there are always trade talks of griffey and nothing happens

and i dont wanna get rid of marshall because i think he has way too much upside and it is actually being seen in the majors...especially wit the unkown of the zambrano deal for next year

I think Guzman still has some marketability, so he might be enough for them to consider. For the Reds its more of a salary dump than anything else.

People are a lot higher on Marshall than I am.

I thought this as well. But kid has been lights out this year, and he still is only 24 years old.

Dont think he will ever be a staff ace, but if he can continue progressing, there is no reason that he cant be a solid 3-5 staff pitcher for a long time in the game- not unlike a Jamie Moyer that we gave up on a long time ago.

ditto -- don't know why, but I'm just not a fan

He was basically an afterthought to everyone here before his recent starts. Maybe he's figured it out? I don't know but I think I'll need to see a little more. Not saying he can't be good, I'm just not convinced yet.

If we could use Marshall as a centerpiece in a trade for Griffey Jr., I'd do it in a second.

Remember that old SNL skit when Will Ferrell did his Haray Caray impresonation on Weekend Update?

Mother Theresa died. That wasn't good. Unless you hated Mother Theresa. I myself was not a fan of hers - don't ask why! We were just like oil and water - we didn't mix

so, is this just rumor bin pap or are there refutable people saying this as well? i just can't imagine the trib allowing hendry to tie up a bunch more money like that over the next couple years. obviously the reds are going to have to chip in... but still. and then what happens with floyd?

the cubs are in a pretty good position, trade-wise right now, future payroll notwithstanding. some pretty solid bargaining chips.

Did you mean to say reputable? And from what I've heard/read, there have been no sources of Griffey to the Cubs that I know about. Did find these articles, though, relevant or not:

Ken Griffey Jr. has made no secret about his desire to win a World Series ring.

Even though it looks like the Reds have no chance of getting there this year, Griffey said he won't ask to be moved to a team in contention.

- No real speculation, just talks about Griffey and his good season and whether or not they should trade Dunn or Griffey

Bingo! You're the best caller of the show. End of story, no deal.

Not so fast. It really depends on what salaries the Reds are willing to take back, and what the teams decide on the deferred money issue. For example, if Hendry could trade a subset of players, whose 2008 contracts offset Griffey's 2008 salary, I don't think the Trib would stand in his way.

His 2008 salary is $12.5m right? $6.5m of that is deferred. So the team that gets him owes him $6m in 2008. Jacque eats up most of that himself. That deferred money, over time, will be next to nothing for them to worry about.

This is going to end up badly. We all know his first game he's going to break a leg or something.

Its going to be his own, isn't it?

Why don't you get high on Sean Marshall?

Everybody is doing it.

Just looking at his picture is enough for a contact high.

You rang?

I'd prefer Dunn, but if the Reds aren't willing to trade him within the division, I wouldn't mind Griffey. Our offense is hurting.

what the heck, the dopes on 1st and 10 just said "unless they threw in soriano or lee or zambrano, i don't think griffey is going anywhere".

anyways, the espn express reporter didn't say anything we don't already know.
