Does it cut it for a 22 year old at Low A??? Man no wonder you Cubs fans are always disappointed in everything and everybody. Oh and he leads the team in Doubles. He will be the first player on this team to play in the Majors.

Yeah, no wonder, because a guy like this is actually one of the better ones. Cubs fans are always disappointed because nobody ever comes up and produces. Guys who become really good major leaguers do a whole lot better than what this guy has done at low A.

He may lead the team, but that's because the team stinks. He's tied for about 40th in the league.

i guess its a good thing you arent in charge then, cause you would have no doubt booted a 20 year old kid in A ball who hit .267 with 8 HR and 53 RBI in 1994 with 95 K and 42 walks and just 19 doubles in 126 games...then again he is your first baseman now...and sorry we dont have anyone hitting .425 with 26 HR and 67 RBI now...im sure youd find something wrong with said player even if we did...

Are you talking about Lansford? He's been awful with the bat and he's supposed to be an excellent defender.

Lansford's been awful with the bat????? He is hitting .287 which is higher than any other player on our roster who was here on Opening Day. He is 2nd on the team in RBI, 1st in doubles, doesnt strikeout much (20 in 180 AB) and is easily the one guy on this team I would want up in a clutch situation.

And he is the best defensive 3rd baseman I have seen in the MWL.

.694 OPS, 50th in the league. 20/11 K/BB.

Average doesn't mean much.

I'll stay out of the OPS vs. Avg debate this season. All I'm saying is if you were to watch this team every day you would know that the 2 players who stand out head and shoulder above are Josh and Castillo.

Standing out above the crap on that roster doesn't mean much to me, no offense. A .694 ops is bad, and the fact that he is an advanced, 23 year old, college draftee just makes it worse.

HE IS NOT 23...cant anyone here add, or subtract???

Castillo? Maybe I've been abroad too long, but wasn't he sent back to Mesa?

If you mean Carrillo, this is an interesting turn from where you stood at the end of last year when he came up to Peoria briefly and you were not impressed. What's changed about him since then, out of curiosity?

Um well we had TWO castillos. I was talking about Wellington the catcher who the Cubs listed as our top prospect position player wise when the season began...

I said "near 23", he'll be 23 in less than a month. For all intents and purposes, he should be considered a 23 year old.

July 31 - June 8 is not less than a month...either...but we will just have to disagree on Josh and then you guys can wait til he makes the majors and bash him like you do Cedeno and Murton and everyone else who comes through the system...

Ahhhhhhhhhh...my mistake.

Milb.com says July 3, whatever, the point remains.

And yes, you've got us figured out. We pore through all the information we can get on present and future minor leaguers just so we can immediately hate them once they get to Chicago. Please stop stereotyping.

Seasonal age is set on July 1st, so, technically, Josh is 22 this year as far as baseball stats are concerned.

That that it matters that much. :)

Derrek Lee was 18 then, not 20. You understand the difference that four years makes in prospect talk, right?

I think you're a little out of your element.

ouch. Hitting me where it really hurts.

Nobody is saying that they have anything personal against the guy, all we are saying is that a sub .700 ops is fairly bad. Why are you so combative?

At least from my perspective on this, there was a lot of potential touted on this team when it first arrived. They haven't lived up to that potential yet - our pitching has not been horrible (there's just been a lot of churn due to injury) but the bats have definitely been cool to cold so far this season. There is a reason that we only have pitchers on the all-star team this year.

I agree with Nate that Josh is absolutely the best 3rd baseman I've seen in the MWL defensively - he can get to anything and has consistently saved us runs by preventing doubles or triples down the line.

Finally, even though the stats don't bear it out in the 1st half, I think Lansford could easily bat .300.

Josh is the best hitter on Peoria, but it's a really, really bad offensive roster and Josh's stat line is really empty. No XBHs, no power. Just because Lansford is going to be the first guy on this team to make the big leagues doesn't mean much - only other hitter who has a chance is W. Castillo.

I'll be frank, I expected more out of Lansford, especially after both Fleita and Wilken touted him so much (I know, I know, Fleita touts everyone). I'm glad his D is as good as hyped, but he doesn't have the bat to stick at 3B.

Vitters is likely to spend a few weeks, minimum, after he signs. I believe the Cubs have their guys go through some orientation stuff for a while, especially HS kids. He's a very high draft choice. Agents don't so often sign them off two days after the draft. So he may well take till August to even sign. And he's only 17, so it's no big rush with him. If he signs in time to play some, I'd fully expect him to spend his main time this summer with Mesa. Often they jump a prospect to a higher league during the last two weeks of the season, just to experience it. Or, especially if the team above is going to have extra playoff games. That seems well possible for Boise, not so much for Peoria. Given how many college players they've drafted, they ought to be able to stock Boise pretty well. Especially if Rundle or Anderson contribute anything there. Of course, not sure that Boise will have much for pitching....
