I'm watching Comcast Sportsnet right now and they had Z's postgame interview on and I really liked Z's comments.

Here are a few of the things he said, as best I can remember them.

"It was definitely a bad feeling [about the barrett incident], the next day, It was a bad feeling. I dont know if you guys know, but he came up to me the next day and apologized, I apologized, we were both crying"

"You know, its like when you fight with your little brother. You get into a fight and the next day you apologize and you're still brothers."

"He still calls me brother, I still call him brother, we're both okay....He will catch me again. Next game, monday against Houston, he'll catch me then and I'm fine with that."

then, in regards to the media-created injury

"you guy's say I'm injured, I'm not. It's my arm slot. If my arm slot goes down then I have problems."

For my :twocents:,

I know some people on this board will never forgive him for what he did. We already have some members calling him an [expletive] and saying they want him traded, but I think thats a little short-sighted.

He was frustrated, Barrett was frustrated, the whole darn team was frustrated. Hell, WE'RE frustrated. Look around this board, I've never seen so much biccering and fighting going on, on this board before. Z had just been pushed to his limit. Between the stress of knowing he's pitching like crap, knowing the team is playing like crap, and people speculating that he's injured, he just snapped on someone who he seems quite obviously to be very close friends with.

That will happen, no one here can tell me that they havent gotten into a heated argument (maybe not a fistfight..) with our little brothers or best friends. Granted, he hit him, and that's wrong, and I'm not excusing him for doing it. It was a mistake. But it's wrong to call someone an [expletive] for making a mistake like that, especially when you can understand WHY he did it. That doesn't make it right, but you can at least see what pushed him over the edge.

Since then he has apologized to Barrett, said to the media he is sorry for the entire incident, and vowed to start this year new (as far as his pitching is concerned).

There's not much more you can ask of the man.

Eh, it was entertaining but that's about it in my book. These things happen.

That said, Z is a hothead and I wouldn't be opposed to a trade, depending on the return. I just certainly wouldn't rush to trade someone because of a single incident (well, a single incident of this ilk). I do, and always have, worry a bit about Z's temperament, though.

Zambrano being a hothead doesn't really factor in to my thinking that we should still trade him before the deadline. Especially if the Cubs can't get back up to .500 here anytime soon. I know he says he wants to be with the Cubs forever and what-not, but we have a lot of young pitching potential, and not as much position player potential. I'd love to see what we could get for him.

Agree. I didn't mean to imply that his hothead nature would factor in my trade consideration.

Well, its good to hear something halfway intelligent come out of Z's mouth. It was good to see him come back and pitch well too. I didn't think the fight was all that big of a deal, I actually thought it was good to see some passion out of this team. They are so severly underacheiving, something had to give. That being said, the fight never changed my opinion on trading Z. It just increased the liklihood of it happening in my opinion. I wouldn't mind trading him if we get good young players in return, but I guess I would say that about any of our vets, including Lee. We have to rebuild our farm system at some point. I'm sick of seeing teams like Atlanta bring up these kids that turn into solid major leaguers.

I really don't think Zambrano was a icehole for fighting with Barrett, I think he was for calling him out in front of his teammates.

Regardless, I think he showed a lot in what he said and the whole thing is water under the bridge. Zambrano is a young guy, and I think he prolly learned a valuable lesson from all this.

I thought it was exciting. Unfortunate, but exciting. Besides, they are playing better baseball right now - and anything is better than focusing on the way they were playing before the fight, ejections, etc.

Icehole! Thats one of the best TBS/TNT/A&E dubbed-over-a-swear replacement words I've heard. My personal favorite in the past has been "Jackhole". Or when they dub over any Sopranos character on A&E so they say "Funny" in leiu of what they originally said.

I thought "icehole" came from Johnny Dangerously, from the "foul mouthed" mob boss who always said things like "farkin'" and "bastich" and "cork sucker."

My thoughts as well. I would like to see him traded because I don't want to see him walk and see the Cubs get nothing but a compensation pick at the end of the year.
