in his dreams that is.....

Neifi Perez-SS-Tigers Jun. 3 - 8:11 pm et

Neifi Perez went 0-for-5 and committed his first error while filling in for Carlos Guillen on Sunday.

As long as the Tigers are taking the trash out to the street, why not have Neifi join Jose Mesa? It might have happened already had Ramon Santiago been playing better at Toledo. Santiago is batting .234/.276/.322 with four steals in 11 tries in Triple-A. Perez is at .149 this year and .179 in 112 at-bats since his acquisition from the Cubs last season.

I find it amazing that an otherwise well-run, talented, hard-working organization like the Detroit Tigers would fail to see what Neifi is from the get go.

But hey -- I guess everyone gets sucked in by the old "gritty veteran" tag. Even World Series calibre clubs.

That OPS+ of 30 is solid.

With Neifi you can't go by the stats.

No kidding. I mean, he's a savior and all.

When Neifi's career ends, he'll be an analyst on Baseball Tonight.

That will be when ESPN loses the very little credibility it still has.

Yeah but only to us smart baseball fans. All of the dumb dumbs that watch ESPN won't know who the heck Neifi is anyway. .

What was really amazing was that Leyland said he and the Tigers scouts were responsible for acquiring Neifi. Think about it: actual professional baseball scouts looked at Neifi Perez in mid-2006, with the way he was playing at the time, and advocated picking up the remaining $3 million on his contract. This, despite already having Omar Infante and Ramon Santiago. Even the most casual armchair Cubs fan knew this was a terrible idea.

Sorry, I will always have fond memories of Neifi. Does everyone forget how huge he was for us in the 2004 season (even though we came up short)? And he was actually pretty decent after Nomar went down in 2005. Sure he was never a great starter but he wasn't that bad for a bench guy and played very solid defense. And yes I get it, he should have taken more walks... blah blah.

You guys rag on him way too much when you could be focusing more on guys like Jose Macias and Todd Hundley, who truly suked beyond belief!

Perez was worse than both. He's the worst regular player ever to play baseball.

Neifi just needs a change of scenery.

Probably part of the trade agreement last year was that Jim agreed to trade for him back this year. Probably will trade that malcontent Zambrano for him!
