Hendry will go out and get himself another big bat for the oufield or find a way to get a hard hitting shortstop.

Can anyone think of a big left-handed SS bat that would be available? 2B? We might actually see Murton become an everyday player if we can get a big LH in the infield. Two upgrades for the price of one.

Good Lord, this is a no-brainer.

SELL any of these bloated, ridiculous contracts for prospects. This is about digging ourselves out from under a mile of junk, ladies and gents.

SELL SELL SELL.

If the Cubs are gonna be sellers this year, they might as well blow it all up and start from scratch.

As has been mentioned, Soriano is untradeable. Nobody is gonna take that contract. The only other offensive players with any value are Lee and Ramirez and if you trade either of them....the odds are you aren't gonna be contending anytime soon. Barrett and Zambrano are the only tradeable value on this team that could be traded without throwing away 2008.....and both are soon to be free agents.

While I fully comprehend the pessimism on this board, why in the hell would we be "sellers" in 2nd place and 5 games back from first and it's still May! It's not like the Brewers have ran off with anything the last couple weeks, either.

They should be doing both. They need upgrades at many spots. But,all they do is get a bunch of mediocre players, and act like they got something. Jones,Izturis,Pagan,Floyd,Barrett,DeRosa,Eyre,Howry,Ohman,Dempster. Trading some of them for prospects or better players would hardly be considered "waving the white flag". I would call it improving.

Trading prospects for mediocre middle relievers would be Hendrys typical formula of trying to catch "lightning in a bottle". Given the list of middle relievers that was posted,i'd rather pitch Guzman,Marmol, and whoever else they want to bring up.

Sell for prospects. Everyone except Lee & ARam.

Just blow it to hell. This is torture, watching such a heartless club.

You're gonna have Soriano. And Kroeger is a bum. Hill over Soto, even though that's still pretty lousy.

Hill over Soto? Hill is about 3 or 4 years older and has already had a couple of cracks at the majors. Soto has a little better patience and (if I remember correctly) a better glove.

you like....what? Losing 110 games?

at shortstop, theriot is not a good fielder, and his bat - though it had been good with the big club - is pretty marginal. I don't like penciling him in at that position. Ideally that's a hole that the Cubs fill via free agency, though Carlos Guillen has been locked up by the Tigers, and there aren't really any other good SS in the market next year.

As someone mentioned earlier, Hendry won't be able to pick up big contracts at the deadline. The team won't be sold 'til after the end of the season, so . . by the time the team is sold and the ownership approved by the other owners, any attractive free agents for 2008 will be gone. Good-bye Z, Barrett, . . . We'll be left to sort through the dregs to fill more holes than we have this season.

The one season when the Trib opens the purse strings wide open, Sam Zell slams 'em shut.
