The Dempster to starter thing had to be Lou and company messing with us, it had to be.

Baseball is filled to the brim with stupid people, but no one could be that stupid.

maybe the "big suprise" is that Wade Miller has secretly been able to get his velocity up to 95MPH and that they are waiting til monday to say "Haha! GOTCHA!! Wade Miller's awesome!".

Wade was clocked in the upper 70s and low 80s in his last start with Tennessee, topping out at 84.

Good. You did get I was joking right? Or are you just maintaining your vulcan like demeanor to further ridicule my lame attempt and humor?

Definitely the latter...especially because you referred to me as vulcan-like. :)

The only reason I can see for any Dempster-to-start plan is to destroy his elbow and be rid of him forever. Nothing else makes any sense to me.

[removes tongue from cheek, but only part-way]

Who would he be better than in the rotation now besides MAYBE Zambrano's awful start?

Lou is easily the most entertaining manager in recent memory.

One of my thoughts when the Cubs hired Lou was that even if the Cubs sucked, Lou would be infinitely more entertaining than Dusty ever was.

For example:

Cubs manager Lou Piniella on the Sox's seven-run seventh in Game 3: "It's hard to score seven runs with two outs and nobody on. … Last week in Philadelphia we had a similar situation, and we held 'em to six."

I like your new posting style. You used to capitalize entire random words. Now you use a lot of sentences. It is funny.

So much for policing personal attacks.

Oh my god you are such a baby.

(That's a personal attack)

It wasn't a shot at you, though it may have come out sounding that way. I mean, its clear that you and I don't get along, but that's neither here nor there in this case.

Great come back, BTW. Very creative. Along the same lines of maturity, I guess "it takes one to know one", eh?

Moving on, can someone summarize what the hey is going on with this Dempster thing? Is it true that he is going into the rotation or is that Lou having fun with the media and distracting from what is really happening? I would think its bad policy for him to play the media for fools, but he may not care.

I dunno folks

Lou has already shown this team he will do almost anything to win

Lou has shown that he will call out players if they are not producing

Lou has a history of futzing with his lineups till he finds something that works

Lou is by his nature not conservative

I would MUCH rather have a guy like that, who is willing to try almost anything. Enough coddling the talent. I think everyone on this team knows where Lou is coming from and cannot be surprised if they get replaced if they are not producing.

Lou has alot of pieces to play with here (one might say too many, as in OF'rs and middle of the road pitchers) I know the season is already over 1/4 over, but I do not feel that Lou is comfortable AT ALL with his "feel" for this team.

I was not the biggest Lou supporter when they brought him in, but I have very few specific complaints about how he has handled the team so far. Yes, I want some stability, but part of that is up to the players, who have been amazingly inconsistent up to this point.

I kinda hope we trade some bodies, bring up some young(er) arms and find time for the Pagan's, Pie's and Murton's of the world.

I fully expect to get drilled for this.

Making moves and changes for the sake of change is not the mark of a good manager. It is the mark of someone grasping at straws.

Players should be replaced if they aren't producing? Sure, Lou has done an acceptable job when it comes to position players for the most part, but would you like to tell me how Angel Guzman wasn't producing and therefore deserved to be demoted to fewer innings and a less important role?

The problem here is the decision making process, just as it always has been. Yes, he's started Theriot, but only a true baseball idiot (or Dusty) would have stuck with Izturis and DeRosa after the way Therior started. Hes handled Murton terribly, and that's not all his fault, given the OF Hendry gave him. He makes erratic late game decisions. He's left us short on the bench several times thats to maddening double switches. He insisted on a 12 man pitching staff for no good reason.

This whole argument is talk radio/sports columnist boilerplate. All the buzzwords are there. Not "Coddling" players. Will do "anything" to win.

This is a bad decision, made for bad reasons, and will probably hurt our overall record, not to mention Guzman's development. At best, it will be break even.

There are better options for Piniella than making change for the sake of change.

Putting Dempster into the rotation can not be considered "doing anything it takes to win". It's actually the exact opposite. Dempster has failed over and over again as a starter. What would make this time any different? Leave Dempster where he is.

Because it was considered, and even considering something this stupid is enough grounds to seriously question someone's intelligence.

He might have considered it for 30 seconds. Long enough to find out dempsters starting stats. at which point, he quit considering.

Wow, this team is a mess.

Just grasping at straws now I guess. I have to believe el presidente is a little put off by the public image Hendry and Lou are setting with this circus.

Zambrano still looks like a mess. Dempster sounds like a guy who doesn't want to close anymore, and we all know he can't start. The best 5th starter option is now going to be a middle reliever. Marquis's early season streak of luck may be running out. Just when the offense starts putting up crooked numbers on a regular basis, the pitching staff steps into a more all-around funk, as opposed to when it was just one guy at a time.

For all the happiness and excitement of winning a the first two against the (highly mediocre) White Sox, it's tough to ignore the fact that the Cubs are under .500 and about to embark on their yearly "oh crap please done implode" west coast swing. Then, after 3 vs Florida at home, they play 10 games against Atlanta and Milwaukee.

Now is not the time you like to be experimenting with ill advised roster shakeups. And yet the Cubs decision makers can't seem to make a sound decision and stick to it.

the dempster quote about how he was happy that lou told him he'd be starting again really rubs me wrong. clearly he isn't happy closing.

I saw it on comcast sportsnight, and it looked pretty clear to me Dempster was eagerly anticipating going back to the rotation, and largely motivated by his desire to no longer be the closer.

But that's just my interpretation of his body language, tone of voice and words.

After yesterday's game, Dempster said he was going to the rotation and after meeting with Lou, took it back 30 minutes later. We're not really sure if Dempster misunderstood Lou or if Lou changed his mind.
