I've heard from a source that Anaheim has shown some recent interest in Jacque. They "desperately" need help in either LF and/or DH with Garret Anderson and Shea Hillenbrand both performing so poorly at the plate.

Nothing imminent.

The only name that the source heard was a SS prospect named Sean Rodriguez. I admittedly don't know anything about the guy. He also heard that Anaheim would have to take most of Jacque's remaining contract for Hendry to deal him.

Sean Rodriguez's stats (.260/.386/.441).

He has some power, probably will move to 2B or be a utility guy at the end. Not a bad prospect.

He looks pretty good. I'd do that deal.

And the Angels pick up Jacque's salary.

Rodriguez is the Angels' #7 prospect per BA.

I think this was mentioned somewhere else as well.

I have no doubt. My observation is that good rumors get re-circulated constantly. Sources will typically trade rumours, and so a good rumor published in April will slightly get morphed by someone else in May, etc...

Am I crazy for preferring Aybar?

Posted
yes because aybar is nothing more than cedeno

I wouldn't say that. Neither of them love to walk, but at least Aybar makes enough solid contact to consistently put up a high batting average.

We really don't need another utility player. We have two already in Theriot and DeRosa.

A legit defensive RF who isn't a platoon player would be nice. As would an everyday SS.

the cubs dont need any more middle infield guys imo. they already have theriot & fontenot for ss & 2b and epat at iowa. it is obvious that the cubs are a better team when theriot is in the lineup and i think that the same will be said about fontenot.

Middle IFers are funny though, and I'll take as many as I can get. Especially if it is getting us out from under JJ's contract. After his '05 season, everyone thought that Ronny was our future at SS and look how that has turned out.

I'm not satisfied with the current MI depth, even if I do like the three guys you mention. They should never stop looking for a guy who can be an everyday impact middle infielder, especially at shortstop, where they have the least depth. I think a team with the three guys you mention handling 2B and utility roles, with a legit SS could be something special.

Anyone have Jim's cell number? I'd like to give my stamp of approval.

I can't imagine that Jim would turn this down. Rodriguez would be maning SS by Sept. 1, based on those stats.

imo theriot is a legit ss. even if they do trade jones for rodriguez , i dont see any reason not to use a middle if of theriot, fontenot & epat.

If the team plans to go without Barrett next year, one of the middle IF positions will have to be upgraded with an impact bat. EPatt is the only one that could be that, and the chances of him being that in his first year is questionable.

Done. Yesterday.

Seconded. Looks like Rodriguez has plate discipline, good IsoD, something the Cubs have lacked for many years.

Pretty neat that the trade would involve two players with ethnically incongruous first and last names.

I would be happy with a Jones for Justin Spier deal. I would rather get someone for the bullpen right now than a mid level prospect.

Ethnically incongruous. Is that a real word?

This would be a great deal for the Cubs, but I can't fathom why the Angels would do it.

Why might the Angels do it? One of their strengths is the depth of their system. If they need a guy like Jacques to help them this year, I don't think giving up their #7 prospect is a terrible idea - especially when that #7 has Aybar and Wood in line ahead of him.
