Seriously, Eyre is terrible. How does Lou not realize it? He has to, right? Why does he always pitch?

Lou brought him in because he already have up winning this game. I don't blame him though. This team always finds a way to make huge mistakes which cost them runs. It is absolutely pathetic.

He certainly shouldn't have given up winning a game down two runs in a hitter's park. That's absurd. Second, Eyre has pitched in many close games, surely Lou hadn't given up winning all those too?

This is only Eyre's 4th appearance in the past 2 1/2 weeks. One of those was the final out of a 7-1 win, and 1 of those was in extra innings when the Cubs were running out of pitchers. Lou hasn't been using him in many close games lately.

I'll stand corrected. It just seems like he pitches all the time.

However, that's "giving up on winning this game" would be moronic. I seriously, seriously doubt that entered Lou's mind. It's a hitter's park and it was a two-run game in the sixth.

Yeah, I bet that CCP also doesnt think that it actually entered Lou's mind, but its a coment on how bad Eyre has been and that it seems stupid to bring him in to a tight game that we still have a chance in. And now that we have come back a little it looks like it was.

CCP didn't say that. I was refuting something another poster said.

My bad, I looked at the quotes and thought it was CCP. But what I said still stands for the poster.

EDIT: Great, that was my 5000th post. What a waste.

But didn't the Cubs have to take the lead for it to count?

If we took the lead then it would be contiuned tomorrow, but since it's tied all bets are off. Classic Cubs!

Rule 4.12 (a) states: “A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated ... (due to) weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead.

don't look at hour by hour forecasts for short-term weather... they're just out of some database that was produced hours ago. Use the radar.

the radar looks worse. theres a lot of storm development going one just west of philly.

It seemed to look like most of it was going to push south of Philly though.

The Fox announcer made it sound like they'll get this game in.

Hmmm, off the mlb official site it says:

4.12

SUSPENDED GAMES.

(a) A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated for any of the following reasons:

(1) A curfew imposed by law;

(2) A time limit permissible under league rules;

(3) Light failure or malfunction of a mechanical field device under control of the home club. (Mechanical field device shall include automatic tarpaulin or water removal equipment);

(4) Darkness, when a law prevents the lights from being turned on;

(5) Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead; or

(6) It is a regulation game that is called with the score tied. National Association Leagues may also adopt the following rules for suspended games. (If adopted by a National Association League, Rule 4.10(e) would not apply to their games.):

I think that means the game would be suspended, since the game has gone 5 innings so it's now a 'regulation' game. But there's so many rules now I get confused by it all.

looks like a little break behind this batch of convection, though there's stuff redeveloping along an outflow boundary back to the west... tough to say. This may be delayed for a while or they may get back on the field in 20 minutes.
