Roger Clemens-S-Astros May. 6 - 3:18 pm et

Free agent Roger Clemens announced Sunday that he plans to pitch for the Yankees this season.

They definitely need him, and it's sure he'll be rewarded handsomely for his choice. Clemens didn't say when he intended to make his return to the majors. It could happen in four to six weeks.

This is the only Clemens thread. Why is it going to be locked?

I don't think this spells the end for Hughes' stay in the rotation. I think they're gonna end up with Clemens, Pettitte, Wang, Mussina, and Hughes. It's not like any other pitcher in the rotation is forcing the issue.

I have to figure out how much to bid on him out of my $45 FA budget in my AL only league if he has officially been signed.

Instead of the Fantasy League perspective how about looking at the implications for the Cubs. This means Clemenns won't be pitching for our rival Cardinals or Astros... which gives us a much easier path at the playoffs. I know most of us don't think the Astros have much of a chance anyway but this sure is nice nonetheless.

I'm thinking about it but it might not be enough b/c I am in 2nd place and ties go to the lower team - I actually have a few weeks though b/c he has to be added to the 25 man roster 1st.

It is nice to see him in the AL.

Especially with the run support he'll be getting. I think he made the right decision. Its nice to play for your home team, but it sucks to lose every game 1-0.

He made the right decision, agreed.

It just sticks in my craw that a player can sit around and do nothing until mid-May, then pick up on whatever the sweetest deal is. Mostly, because I know it would never be the Cubs who got him.

Basically the Yankees and/or the Stros get to build their ballclubs knowing they've got an ace in the hole that other clubs don't have. There's something fundamentally unfair about that. I think if Clemens wants to do this in the future, he should have to clear waivers.
