Shea is a craphole. I went to a Mets game in August of 2004 and it sucked. You can tailgate, which is nice and they have a million parking spots.

I went in the bathroom 90 minutes before the game and there was already 2 inches of standing water all over the floor. Awesome.

We sat in the upper deck right behind home plate, and the view was great. The seats were very cheap, but we had an awesome view which included the US tennis center, where they were having the US Open at the same time.

One plus about Shea stadium is that they use the "Mr. Met" character on all of the directional signs and telling you where to go. Mr Met rules and it made me happy to see him all over the place. Unfortunately, the Mr. Met mascot didn't make the trek to the upper deck.

The food was average and the beer was more expensive than Wrigley, but usual for New York.

Here are my all time park rankings (of parks I've been to) if anyone cares:

PNC, Pac Bell, Wrigley, Fenway, Camden, Coors, Miller, Petco, New Busch, US Cellular, Great American, Dodger, Angel, Yankee (a huge disappointment), County, Old Busch, Tropicana, Shea, Old Comiskey, Veterans, Metrodome

I'm suprised that Great American isn't higher on you're list. I like it significantly more than the Cell and Miller.

I just was not impressed at all with GABP. It was nice and all, but had nothing really great about it.

I like the tailgating at Miller as well as the Friday's area where you can catch an inning. Also, I found the concessions at MP better than GABP.

As far as the Cell, it used to suck big time, but I love the brick that they added to the columns on the concourse. Also, the center field fan deck trumps anything that GABP has to offer as far as "novelty seating" from what I was able to see when I was there. I wish the stadium still sucked because I hate the white sox...

Overall, I could see why someone would like GABP better than the two above stadia, but I don't. GABP is a nice place to watch a game, but nothing special--although the enormous replica of the 1990 WS trophy in the gift shop outside of the stadium was sweet.

Shea Stadium is indeed a dump. I went there 2 weeks ago for my first game and I would put it right behind Veterans Stadium as the worst baseball stadium I've been to. Beer is $7.50, I believe, which is acceptable for NY but the concessions are beyond pathetic. Had to walk around half the stadium to find something other a hot dog at a concession stand.....and I finally found a place with really good sausage and peppers. There was a place serving Sbarro pizza but I didn't find it while walking around.

And even though the Mets were playing the Braves, I must have heard "Yankees suck" chant about a dozen times.

Interesting choice for a first post. Welcome aboard.

They do indeed have a lot of Yankees sucks chants at Mets games. Similarly, NYRangers games included numerous Potvin Sucks! chants, referring to the former NY Islander, when they aren't even playing the Isles. Some might say NYers like to focus on the negative.

But Shea definitely has a lot of negatives.

Went to a Cubs-Mets game at Shea in 2001. It was terrible. The Mets fans were very rude and obnoxious, and there were planes flying over the stadium every 5 minutes.

It's unfortunate that 2 of the 3 stadiums I've been to were Shea and Veterans. They were both crapholes.

2nd tier behind homeplate are the best seats I've sat in at Shea.

It's an old park that's about to be replaced. When you go, you'll know why it's about to be replaced.

I haven't been there in over 10 years.

The views from the seats at Shea make up for the rest of it. I've been there a few times and haven't had a bad view yet. That said, be prepared to pony up for beer and standard ballpark food.

The good thing is it's easy to get to. Just take the 7 train from Grand Central and you'll be there in 30 minutes.

I liked County much more than Miller.

The food is pretty good at Miller, but the atmosphere is lacking, especially when the roof is closed.

I do think The Cell has come a long way, too.

How many tickets will you be looking for. I have 2 tickets to that game I am trying to get rid of.

My wife and I are going out to NY for a few days around then and we wanted to go to the game 5/16 so she started watching some auctions on eBay and I saw one about to end at a reasonable price so I bid on and won them. Then I realized they were for the 5/17 game instead of the 5/16 game. I would just ask what I paid for them if you are interested. They should be really good seats in the Field Box section down the first base line in 147 row A which should be just one or two rows off the field.

Let me know if you are interested.
