This team is one of the worst assembled teams I've ever seen. Maybe tomorrow I'll do the math, but it wouldn't suprise me if we are spending more money per win than any team ever. Maybe some of those Mets teams beat us. I'm assuming the Yankees are going to end up in the playoffs.

Anyway, regardless of the bungled payroll, this isn't even the worst team of the decade. Remember 2000? In 1999, our opening day pitcher was Steve Trachsel. Relax - this team is easily average. We might even win the wild card! We have fun, talented players. It could be way worse. And soon our luck in the draft will have to turn around.

I'd bet the Yankees are paying far more per win right no

w than are the Cubs.

Red Sox too. They don't have that many more wins than we do.

Well that's why I said the Yankees are going to turn it around. But it turns out I'm still wrong, we have very little chance of breaking any records. Oh well, I guess this season is destined to be mediocre in every sense. Still doesn't rule out a wildcard, though...

Yeah. Season's over. The last 8 games have shown what a terrible team we are and always will be.

Yup. It's the Pirates' to lose.

Have you ever seen a thread eat crow?

Winners of seven out of eight...

Back to .500....

/serves crow

Watch out for April overreactions, especially when the talent on the field tells a different story than the scorecard, and J. B. Baker isn't the captain of the ship.

5 in a row and 8 of 9. What a shame it all came too late...

You can thank me and UMFan for starting the game threads.

I'll wait until the end of the season to see if you're still making them before I thank you.

I was only around 13 at the time, but i vaguely remember that thread on cubs.com. Care to refresh my memory?

Some Cards fan (hogcard was his name?) who was a frequent troll on cubs.com started up a thread by that title, complete with improper usage of "your" instead of "you're". The post was a poorly conceived argument that Z was going to hurt the cubs, and this was right before he really broke out into the pitcher he's become. Needless to say, as Carlos dominated the thread was bumped countless times to lampoon the initial post.

right right, i definately remember hogcard. I can't believe i used to rely on that site for talking to cub fans. It did inspire my hatred of the cards and sox tho.

Never too early.

I would be absolutely shocked if this current team could play consistently enough to make up a 5 game deficit.

That's the scary part. I find it hard to believe they can win serveral games in a row, to even make a run at it.

I'm still having a hard time believing that two weeks ago, I was on the same boat, and now I'm pissed because they have another off day. I used to look forward to off days as reprieves from losing.

And you may be doing the same again.

Nice little run, but let's see if they can sustain it against actual baseball teams. Just as I wasn't writing the season off before, I'm not going to act like anything's been won now.

Lots of baseball to be played yet.
