That was pretty stupid to pinch hit Theriot there.

 

With two outs and nobody on, the odds of managing a run were quite small anyways. With Lee, Aramis, and Jones set to come up the next inning we were in a pretty powerful position to win the game.

 

If Theriot were to get a hit, odds are we'd just waste DLee's at bat in a situation where he's not likely to help as much as he could just leading off next inning with a walk or something.

 

It was a pretty shoddy use of available resources. The best way to manage the situation would have been to just let the pitcher make an out.

I guess I don't understand-the bench was used almost exactly as people have been calling for. Murton was put in when a left-hander faced Floyd with 2 runners in scoring position in the 7th. Two pinch-hitters hit for the pitcher, and two more did when there were 2 runners on in the 8th inning of a tie game and Blanco and Izturis were at the plate.

 

So the only one that was even questionable was putting in Cedeno to pinch-run, and yet Lou is criticized for using too much of his bench. So which situation would you not have used a pinch-hitter?
