The Cubs rattled off 5-7 W's in a row, lost a couple, then another winning streak of 5-7 games?

I honestly can't recall even when they went on a crazy win streak. What I'm getting at is - the team as it currently stands, doesn't appear capable of a long winning streak. And therefore, how good is this team (not only in the NL but compared to the AL as well? Not very.

Well, they have played 13 games so I'm not entirely sure... I think the offense will be fine and the "questionable" pitching has been solid, overall, thus far.

To answer your question, I believe the Cubs longest winning streak last year was 4 games so it was at least 2 seasons ago...

I think this team is very capable of putting together a solid winning streak. Our rotation is very good, and once the offense starts consistently producing, we won't have trouble winning several games in a row.

I don't know the answer to your question though. It's been awhile.

I'm pretty sure the last time they did anything like that was in the 2005 season. After prior got hit by the line drive they won 9 out of ten. Then later that season they won 8 out of 10 or 9 of 11 towards the end of August, giving everyone false hope that they might get hot enough to win the wildcard. I think the key to ripping off those kinds of streaks is having a pitching staff that can consistently deliver quality starts. Once Guzman becomes a fixture in the rotation, I think this staff can.

It's all "gut feeling," but this team hasn't seemed like a winning streak-type of team for a couple of years now. The last two seasons, the streak after Prior's shot to the elbow aside, every win has felt like some kind of momentous effort, and the idea of winning even just two in a row seems crazy. So far this hasn't changed at all this year.

I keep hearing the Offense will be fine. It will come around. This is exactly what was said in 2004 and 2005. Are we sure that it will be any better than a middle of the league offense that it is now.

The offense was fine in 2004, IIRC. It was better than the "O" in 03'.

If this team hits with any consistency whatsoever they ought to run away with this horrendous division by late-August. Of course, it would be helpful to cut some of the dead weight (Ronny and Jacque) and play guys like Theriot and Murt more, plus it would be nice if Alfonso were both healthy and hitting as he normally does.

Just get into the playoffs and anything can happen.

the team hit the ball really hard over and over again yesterday, but right at people or into the teeth of the wind. The BABIP for yesterday's game was crazy low

Derwood is right on. The hitters didnt strike out until the shadows split the plate. Let me repeat; our first K wasnt until the 10th inning. Our hitters put the screws on the baseball several times and they either were into the wind, and were knocked down, or right at a defender.

This team isnt hitting on all cylinders yet. Pardon the pun. We arent the 27 Yankees waiting to break out, but we definately arent the team that lost yesterday on an every day basis.

Just watching the team's approach at the plate this year gives me comfort. With such a small sample size, I think we're just experiencing the variance that comes with it.

The Cubs have scored more runs than given up. The lauded NL best Braves (10-4) have scored all of 4 runs more than the Cubs, and given up 2 more Runs.

The Cubs are three questionable/bad calls away from being 8-6. This team is going to rebound.

Are you referring to calls made by umpires?

Yes. One of the issues Cubs pitchers have is keeping their cool. Numerous times this year, a Cubs pitcher has appeared to earn the 3rd out in an inning (whether by strike out or in the field), only to have the call go the other way.

Then they implode and the other team gets numerous runs from an unfocused pitcher. These guys need to learn to focus on the situation as it is, and not how it "should be" had they gotten the call.

The last great month the team had was in 2003 in the month of Sept.

The last prolonged win streak we had was 12 games in 2001.
Which came immediately on the heels of an 8 game losing streak.

Which I was a proud part of. Stupid Richard Hidalgo.

Man, what a powerful IF we had. Hundley, Stairs, EY, Ojeda, and Coomer.

Story please.

The only story here is my buddy who was drunk by 9 AM and passed out twice by the 6th inning in his first ever trip to Wrigley.
