If the Cubs reacquired Neifi, he would immediately become our best shortstop.

Seriously, based on your comments in this thread and in another where you argued this could be the worst team in franchise history, I think Tim should crown you King of Hyperbole.

Ohman + Izturis for Carlos Guillen

:D

Ohman + Izturis for a Microwave and a box of Red Baron pan pizzas

Red Baron blows. Make it Tombstone and you've got yourself a deal.

Chicago Tribune[/url]"]The Tigers are worried their pitching staff is a little too right-handed these days. Don't be surprised if they make a move for a left-handed reliever. The Cubs' Will Ohman is among those they are studying.

More speculation from Detroit.

The Tigers asked about several southpaws in the off-season, including C.J. Wilson (Rangers), Pedro Feliciano (Mets) and Will Ohman (Cubs). It's highly unlikely that either Wilson or Feliciano will be moved. Ohman might be a different story.

Chicago has three left-handed relievers -- Ohman, Neal Cotts and Scott Eyre -- and Ohman appears to be the most available of the group.

He has dropped to third on new manager Lou Piniella's depth chart, and faced more right-handers (12) than left-handers (eight) through Friday. That's not the type of split one would expect from a situational left-hander.

Ohman's numbers might not look good -- 0-1, 9.00 ERA -- but again, they are a function of how Piniella has used him. The statistic that matters is the batting average of opposing left-handed hitters, and that number is .167.

Can we trade Eyre instead?

OHman for Neifi ?

Banned.

I can only imagine NSBB's reaction.

I'm guessing that, after the inevitable crash, people wouldn't be too happy.

Well Kyle Farnsworth netted us Novoa and Scott Moore. Ohman isn't quite as good as Farnsworth, but he's lefty so the values are probably about equal. Maybe we could get something like Michael Hernandez and Gorkys Hernandez?

Ohman is outstanding against lefties. How about instead of trading him, we keep him and actually pitch him against left-handed hitters. You know, use him for what he's good at!

Use him where he's supposed to be used? What is this nonsense?

Just to get this straight - the Detroit paper knows how to use our players better than our manager does? Ok. Great.

The other humorous thing is I think the only time he was used correctly this year (when he was brought in to face Hatteberg with the bases loaded last week relieving Z in the 5th) was the time Lou was most criticized for bringing him in.

Loogy status = Cop out. Either you get guys out or you dont. It shouldnt be a mystery, you probably have been facing opposing batters since you were 9 years old.

504 ip was how many the typical NL pen avg last season- meaning the 6 bp guys should be averaging about 84 innings each (injuries and call ups change the number to keep it usually a lot lower). But using a loogy will get the number over 90 which is the red line danger zone for most relievers.

If you go with 12 pitchers, then maybe its ok, but still 3 lefties i have to question. Also giving up quite a bit in the way late inning switches and offensive moves (but with Z and Marquis maybe). I still favor having the 14th bat over the 12th pitcher, especially given our proclivity in the nagging injury department and the long grind of the season on everyday players.

Package Ohman and Jones to the AL Central (detroit or cleveland) and get a real prospect.

That would just make too much sense.

It's not a cop out when the reliever really does it well. If used to get 1/2 LH out, Ohman would be a very effective pitcher. There's a place for that, esp b/c so many teams have LH starters (or PH) that just cannot hit LHP (Floyd and JJ come to mind). A true LOOGY can be very useful and it appears that Ohman is a LOOGY. Trading him b/c our manager refuses to use him in situations in which he would succeed doesn't make sense to me.

If you're going to deal a RP, make it Eyre. He sucks but he's LHP. Trade him and JJ to Detroit. They think they need a LH bat and RP and we have that. I don't much care what we get back (as long as it's not neifi).

I'd rather trade Eyre, but I think Detroit knows he blows :)

After Ohman's collapse last week, Lou seemed to put him right back in there for more innings, so while it's clear Lou was angry I don't necessarily think Ohman made it into the dog house.
