I know it's only two weeks into the season, but Ohman hasn't shown even a sliver of dominance either in close games (walking two when relieving Z) or blow-out games (Giles's 3-run bomb tonight).

Either Wade Miller or Rocky Cherry need to take his spot in the bullpen. The Cubs would be much stronger for it.

If Miller goes to the pen, then Guzman would be the 5th starter presumably, so that doesn't really help.

:!: Oh yeah, you're right. I guess I'm trying to say swap Miller and Guzman, drop Ohman and call up Cherry.

Considering Miller has said he doesn't want to go to the pen, the Cubs might DFA Miller, make Guzman the #5 starter, and bring up a reliever from AAA.

That doesn't help with the Ohman situation though.

Yeah, I realize that. I was just stating that his suggestion was unlikely because of Miller's statements about not wanting to go to the pen. I don't really have a problem with Ohman in the pen right now. He's working himself into a role where he only pitches in blowouts.

EDIT: Removed a statement.

People are overreacting. Ohman is a fine reliever when used as a loogy. One of the best in baseball, in fact.

Yeah. We can't forget his great 2005 and decent 2006. He has only pitched 3 innings on the year so we'll see. The more important concern is the fifth starter situation.

He was terrible last April too. He'll be fine.

On a side note, the guy is really funny. We had tickets on the 3rd base side about 6 rows from the field back in 05 and he would walk back and forth for various reasons pregame and between innings, and would joke around with fans a lot.

But he better start pitching better...:P

The cubs sure would be stronger. Now ofcourse we'd need to bring up an additional guy. But even if you JUST swapped Miller and Guzman. The Cubs would be tons better. Because you'd have Guzman starting and Miller only going a couple of innings at a time. And I'd bet Guzman would give you the better performance at this time.

Let's see. Miller DFA, Guzman to the Rotation. Cherry to the bullpen. Ohman to AAA or DFA. Who else we got at AAA? Heck anyone would be better. Bring Mateo or Marmoll.

I was specifically saying that the Miller-Guzman switch doesn't really help Ohman's suckitude to start the season. I, of course, completely agree that the Miller-Guzman switch needs to happen, and soon.

Ah, I see. You were saying it doesn't help the Ohman situation. I thought you meant it doesn't help period. Haha.

Like I said in the game thread, I don't think Ohman has options left and even though hes had a rough couple innings, he has averaged over a K an inning and a 1.30 WHIP the last 2 years (100+ IP). Even though hes signed for two years its only 2.5M, there are some teams that don't have LOOGYs, I don't think he would make it through waivers. And even if he did, then couldn't he decline the assignment and become a FA?

Quit the knee jerk reaction people...Sori hasn't been hitting, should we send him to AAA?

Agreed. It's only April. Give him some time.

Why is it that bullpens are so hard to manage? Ohman is a loogy, nothing more. I understand tonight if you want to say that you wanted to get him some extra work, but for the most part, he's a one out per inning guy.

Ok so we all know Ohman has sucked so far. He started really bad last year too and turned it around. He has definitely frustrated all of us but I think it's still too early to get rid of him.

12 pitchers is a luxury and Ohman has been the weak link. If he pitches well in Iowa he'll be back. I like that Lou wants to play the people who produce.

Again, he has no options left.

If Ohman goes down to Iowa, he'll never come back-because he will be on another team. I think the team would have to send down somebody else-no use in exposing Ohman this early. Guzman could go down, get a start in the minor leagues, and be ready to replace Miller if needed for example.
