It seems like I'm alone here, but I'm a big fan of the hit and run so long as the batter's objective is to hit the ball on the ground.

Nice job by Marquis so far. He's throwing a lot of pitches, but if he can go 6 and put up a decent line I'll be satisfied.

A hit and run kept us out of a DP early in the inning, and then had us hit into a DP the end of the inning-it evened out.

50-50 isn't a good percentage.

Well, let's say it another way. Without using the hit and run at all in that inning, the Cubs get 1 run instead of 2.

i'm listening to the game, was it that sure of a thing? a 3-6-3 isn't exactly an easy DP.

can we stop hitting and running already? or are we going to take unnecessary risks time after time?

Right now we arent hitting like the 27 Yanks. Time and a place for everything. If its through then it is 1st and 3rd. On the ground you still have a guy on. H&R with Sorri, not a big fan. Barrett up with Murton on makes a good Run and Hit combo.

we were hitting well in that inning. no need to take chances when we're hitting well.

Just because a couple guys in front of Barrett got a hit doesn't guarantee he will.

Hitting is contagious is a dumb saying. it isn't the flu.

Without using the hit and run, the Theriot grounder could have been a DP and the Cubs wouldn't have scored any runs.

As others have said, it was moving the defense that picked up an extra run. Blindly H&R I agree with you, not smart. Picking times and places. Remember you are dealing with humans. The Mental is 2 to 1 the physical.

It was right at the bag. Gonzalez could have tagged first immediately and thrown to 2nd base in plenty of time.

trying to hit the ball on the ground isn't wise.

I would certainly think that Guzman would get the nod. He is the long man. Cotts could as well.

Well, I calculated 1 because Lee still got a single, advanced on a WP, and then scored on Murton's single before Barrett would have made the 3rd out in the inning.

And Sully, admittedly I can't tell you for sure-I'm listening as well :D I was just trusting Pat when he said it would have been a DP instead of saying that it just could have been one.

it worked, sometimes these things work. but planning on these things working time and again isn't a good thing. best to rely on the ability of your team to be productive at the plate than by cheating their skills taking risks.

Murt needed that bad. This is the most important game in his career.

haha.

It's funny but it's true. Can you imagine what would happen if he went 0-4 tonight with a GIDP and 2 K's? He'd be a platoon player.

Oops, you're right. I forgot about the WP that advance Lee to second. It would have been 1 run.
