It seems like I'm alone here, but I'm a big fan of the hit and run so long as the batter's objective is to hit the ball on the ground.

Nice job by Marquis so far. He's throwing a lot of pitches, but if he can go 6 and put up a decent line I'll be satisfied.

trying to hit the ball on the ground isn't wise.

Really?

Neither is trying to hit the ball in the air. more hits will come via the ground than air.

Obviously if you are leaving line drives out of the conversation

you can't leave line drives out of the equation. the intent should be to hit line drives all of the time.

Obviously.

But your still more likely to get a hit on the ground vs. a fly ball.

i never said you should try to hit fly balls. i believe that trying to hit fly balls is counter-productive as well. what i said is that you should never try to hit ground balls. regardless of the situation--in any situation, a line drive is going to generally be most productive.

Izzy grounds a Pierre. Inning over.

Yeah, those are innings where you should take a fridge/bathroom break.

Murt needed that bad. This is the most important game in his career.

haha.

It's funny but it's true. Can you imagine what would happen if he went 0-4 tonight with a GIDP and 2 K's? He'd be a platoon player.

Your exaggerating just a bit.

"Most important game of his life?"

Naw, I don't think it's an exaggeration. If he has a terrible game tonight the implications would be pretty depressing for him.

I know you're new here, but you might want to keep the language PG.

I agree in most situations, but not necessarilly in a hit-and-run. With the infield moving, a ball on the ground can easily be a base hit. Or you can line into a DP like barrett just did.

My hatred for Izturis grows more and more each game.

Mine has no more room more growth.

I was hoping this icon would send Izturis on the way to a decent season, but clearly, it has failed.

do I hear a "Padres suck" chant?

Somehow I don't think our fans should be chanting that the Padres suck considering they went 7-0 against the Cubs last year.
