I understand now why it's rare for Lilly to go more than 6 innings in a start.

The man has some nice pitches, but nothing to wipe out the opposing hitter on a regular basis.

Plus, despite being a lefty, he doesn't hold the runners particularly well.

Yeah he's averaging nearly 20 pitches per inning. Not good.

I'm surprised Encarnacion didn't get thrown out.

For those not in front of the TV, what happened? If he tipped it and Barrett caught it, what as the fuss about?

Lilly threw an inside pitch to Encarnacion which got him off the plate. The pitch grazed off the knob of his bat or his hand and went into Bare's glove. The ump called it a foul tip strike three and Encarnacion went ballistic, yet somehow managed not to get tossed.

The ump said it hit the knob of the bat, Encarnacion said it didnt. He didn't swing.

Encarnacion said it hit him in the hand.

Isn't the hand part of the bat anyway?

Ball hit knob of the bat, Encarnacion thought it hit his hand then proceeded to go insane.
