It's an interesting time in rap right now: sales are down, and there really isn't one rapper who's officially running the game. What we do have, however, is a group of several rappers all vying for the title. So you gotta let me know, who's the best rapper alive?

Some potential choices:

Jay-z - even though Kingdom Come was a disappointment, Hov is on top of the endorsement game, partnering with Bud Select and GMC.

Nas - always considered the more lyrical of New York's battling titans (him and Jay-z), Nas dropped a slept-on album, Hip Hop is Dead, around the same time Jay-z dropped Kingdom Come.

TI - the self-proclaimed "King of the South" is having more success than anyone right now as far as sales are concerned. His last album, King, was the only album of 06 to go plat, and he's seeing a successful start to protege Young Dro's career.

Lil Wayne - once "the best rapper alive since the best rapper [Jay-z] retired, now Wayne considers himself the true "best rapper alive." Few can match his prodigious mixtape output, and streets are fiending for his new release, the Carter 3.

Lupe Fiasco - with a huge amount of hype and internet buzz, Lupe had to deal with bootlegging problems before the release of his major label debut, Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor. Winning critical acclaim right out of the gate, this Chicagoan has the ear of the backpackers and the streets.

Lil Wayne hands down. I've never gotten into Nas. I tried really hard to listen to his new album but I can't get into it, he just doesn't do it for me. TI isn't very good IMO, and same goes for Lupe. I love Jay-Z, but Lil Wayne is quickly climbing up the rap game, and while Kingdom Come was a nice album, it wasn't up to Jay-Z's standards.

I almost voted "other" for The Game, because his new album is just outstanding, but Lil Wayne gets my vote.

I loved that album when it first came out, but the constant mentioning of Dre really started to annoy me after awhile, and now I can't even listen to it.

The game annoys me to no end. Within two months of making it big he had turned his back on the person who was probably most responsible for his early success (50 cent...even though I dont like him either) and there was already someone shot because of a 'beef' he was involved with.

That being said, Kanye West is an absolute moron, but i still love his music, I suppose it's not a fair standard.

I'll have to co-sign this. I was definitely feeling Doctor's Advocate when it came out, but for some reason, it didn't have the staying power that the Documentary had - even though there's a ton of good tracks. That being said, some of the stuff on the Stop Snitching, Stop Lying mixtape was hilarious.

Lil Wayne? Seriously? I don't really listen to too much rap anymore, but Lil Wayne? Either he suddenly became good, or I have a very different opinion on what makes a good rapper.

Out of these choices, I'd vote for Nas. Dr. Dre is probably my favorite though. Him or Eminem.

Lil Wayne has become very good. I used to not take him very seriously -like much of the old Cash Money members - but the more he puts out, the more I like him.

He he still no where near Nas though. But really who is?

Since it seems most here like Nas, what is your favorite album?

Besides the obvious Illmatic, I am a fan of Stillmatic and the Lost Tapes above all others. I also have a Dirty Harry mix called Nasir Jones that I have been listening to a lot.

I never get tired of listening to Atmosphere so I voted other.

As for the guys listed above, Nas is my favorite. Illmatic is just, from start to finish, an unbelievable record. I love that album. For whatever reason I never got into Jay-Z though his dis songs during his feud with Nas were just sick.

to me, its comparable to asking who is the best men's tennis player or who is the best men's golfer.

I voted for Lil' Wayne because "Bling Bling" is my favorite rap song ever.

Warning: it has a lot of bad words.
