But I asked Juan for clarification of the rule before the draft. Knew that I would want a couple of pitchers on my bench to make certain that I would have 7 starts per week and drafted accordingly.

That's all well and good that you drafted accordingly, which gives you the advantage of choosing which of your 7 starters pitch each week. I think you still should set your line up at the beginning of the week and leave it that way.

Well, rules are rules I suppose. I'm in the process of stocking up my reserves with SP's. I suggest everyone else do the same as soon as possible, as the free agent market is about to get completely tapped out.

16 teams x 8 SP (3 reserves) = 128 SP divided by 5 (the amount of starters on each team in MLB = 25.6 teams worth of starting pitchers.

Offensive position reserves aren't worth as much as getting a good 6th or 7th starter that you CAN USE with your regular starters. And if you really need to replace one of your position players, the free agent market will be saturated with quality talent because there will be very few offensive reserves. Why carry them when you can have an 8th SP who matches up very well against their opponent that you can stick into the game.

I'm really going to be looking forward to studying match ups to determine which of my 8 starters will get the nod each day so that I make the best use of my 7 start limit. And I'm really going to like this when Pedro is back.

And I want to also be clear that if I have a commanding lead on Sunday with a start left, that I can just stick all of my starters in reserve so that I don't risk losing points on a bad start?

Would this be correct? Sounds right.

I would certainly think you can reserve pitchers if you want to in order to avoid a poor start resulting in negative points. It's already been stated that the reserve limit can be exceeded in order to reserve pitchers with several starts; I would assume that would be true even if that does result in having fewer than 7 starts by your own choice.

My pickup, Kyle Davies, got rained out. So, I'm gonna have to win with a 7-4 start disadvantage. Up about 23 right now.

All the more reason to carry 8 SP's. When someone gets postponed early like today, just take that guy out of the line up and put someone else in that has a start left.

Ok.. this brings up another question... Can I sub Burrell since I know ahead of time his game is cancelled today?

No. I think that was explicitly laid out in the rules. He's not injured, so I don't think that would be allowed.

Add Kansas City at Baltimore to the list of today's postponements.

At this point, it might be easier to just name the games that are actually playing. Think indoor stadiums. :D

I was joking.. :)

1st - We all know who's fault it is that we are having this controversy over starters - Juan - He should of made sure that we all were very aware of the rule changes before the season started. So I suggest that we get together tonight, go over to Juan's house, and tar and feather him. Either that or give him a really big wedgie. O:)

2nd - I think that our bench has been underutilized over the past few seasons. I tend to lean towards supporting being able to rotate any player from the bench during the week for any reason. Thus you could have extra pitchers and try to pick the best seven starts, or extra hitters, to try to maximize plate appearances, or rookies who have too many plate/mound appearances to stash in the minors, but who are too promising to give up on. The only way you can pick up a FA though, would be because of an injury, and the player must be on the DL, officially. That being said, we have already started the season....

3rd - I was wondering why more managers weren't stockpiling arms for their bench...Now I know why.

i'm not stockpiling arms b/c, for one, more than likely you'll still get at least six starts each week...that's just how it will often fall. secondly, with how much a bad start costs you, i'm not going to throw scott downs out there just for the sake of adding a start.

Wow. Stupid storm just killed any hopes I had of catching Tim this week.

Yeah, that kinda sucks for you. I think I would have won anyway (unless you got a couple performances like the other day), but it would have been a lot closer.

i've got five closers + owens, who may close for the marlins. someone take one of them off my hands.

Well, if you'd quit picking up every new closer off the free agent market, you wouldn't have this problem!

I say we leave abuck stuck using his entire reserve list for closers. That way he can't take advantage of the extra starts each week. :D

My plan all along has been to carry seven starters and use the extra reserve spot for a spare batter in case of injury. Now that Weaver and Unit are both coming off the DL, my plan will come to fruition.

True. Contreras burned me in week one. That is why I am going with only 6 starts this week. I didn't want to risk Contreras vs Cleveland again and Garcia was just coming off the DL. (Garcia's game was canceled anyways).

BTW - Apparently I lost in week one to a team that wasn't rotating in starters.

Of course, you said it knowing that you're going to beat the [expletive] doing that this week. :D

I'm going to have a hard time continuing to win if Albert doesn't recover from his age 37, lack-of-steroid driven decline. :(

Although, I would like to point out to BBB that even with Rollins hitting home runs at a very non-normal rate my MIF will still outscore his this week. :)

98.25 of my team 126 points is from the offense. :(

If you are disappointed with Harden, I'll take him off your hands.
