I don't think there should be any changes during the week, unless a player goes on the DL. If a guy is day-to-day, you lose him.

I agree. We will continue with changes only on Sunday unless there is an injury.

so can we make pitching changes mid-week in an effort to get seven starts?

no.

This is not what you told me earlier. On several occassions you said that we could not change position players, but that we could bring starters from the bench in order to have our seven starts. So, that is what I have been doing. I drafted my team based upon that knowledge.

So, I had Escobar go on the DL yesterday. He had a scheduled start today. Am I allowed to pick up a starter to take his place?

For the record, that only puts me at 5 starts this week. For some reason Capuano, who pitched Sunday vs the Cubs, doesn't go again til Monday, thus has 0 starts this week. Hamels pitched Monday and goes today.

I already picked up a guy who starts today, so let me know if that's legal or not.

Just say no.. give me a chance this week.. :) Actually, I'd see it as being within the rules to do that DJ..

Raw's substitution would be allowed, IMO. The only changes that appear to be legal are ones that replace an injured player that was in your starting line up.

Let me make sure I have the rule changes down.

1) Only 3 starting outfielders this year, but the rest of the starting line-up is the same. correct

2) We still have three reserves. correct

3) No changes to minor leaguers. correct

4) 3 injured player slots, they must be officially on the DL to be placed here. So no changes. correct

5) There have been scoring changes, which will increase the points from a pitcher, but not nearly as much as the projections on CBS indicate (subtract around 150-200 points from a pitchers projection???) no, the projections are off by more like 300-500 points. I would use last year's scores as a better indicator.

6) Each team is limited to seven starts per week. correct

7) No line-up changes during the week, except for trades, a player placed on the DL, or a player benched for nagging injuries etc..., but if the player is benched he must be reserved (not on the DL). you can change your starting pitchers whenever you want.

Am I forgetting something? Do the newbies have any questions? No is the time to post your concerns. The season is close to starting:)

From the Rule Changes thread.

If we decide to not allow changes to starting pitching from now on fine, but...

Clarification is what I want more than anything. We've got different people playing by different rules.

I'm fine with last years rules.

I am not fine with switching out pitchers to get 7 starts and not allowing switching out hitters. It needs to be none or both.

I'd say, like my experience with Hanley this week... He was out for 4 days or so with a bad hammy. I reserved him, he played yesterday. Having seen that, I've put him back in the lineup for today, and benched his replacement.

I would disagree. While I could live with either option, being able to switch pitchers allows everyone to have 7 starts despite scheduling quirks. The whole point of the rule change was that you could go into a week being down 5 starts to 10 and you knew you would lose. It really didn't matter if your team was playing better.

I do agree that we need clarification and to make the decision now.

That sounds right.

I don't have any problems with that. But the player needs to be reserved and the replacement should come off your bench.

that doesn't necessarily allow everyone to have seven starts. some people only carry five or six pitchers.

No, but it would narrow the gap.

My interpretation is that would be OK, since Escobar actually went on the major league DL. My situation is a bit different, since Jennings is missing a start but hasn't actually been placed on the DL (at least yet). Since I can't place him on my DL, I don't think I can pick up a free agent pitcher to get his start either.

Looks like today's finished me off for this week. A poor outing by El Duque (losing to Washington, of all teams) and another collapse by Ryan (negative points even before deductions for TBA) was the last thing I needed when I was already two starts short thanks to Mother Nature and Jennings' injury. Oh well, at least it was Hill that helped to seal my fate, so that makes it a bit easier to take.

yeah, the difference between hill and el duque alone is probably going to be at least 30 points. really good pitching helps a lot and really bad pitching kills you.

If we are not allowed to maximize our starts by bringing someone off the bench (which appears to be the case), then Cook's points should not count for me tonight. I did a switch last week too, but it cost me points and I lost the game, so I don't think anyone will complain.

ok, Al is right - that was the rule going into the draft so we will keep that. You may not pick up players not on your roster to insert them however. Position players cannot be substituted unless there is an injury or four days of snow (ie extenuating circumstances).

That was my understanding anyway (unless it is to replace a player who actually goes on the major league DL). Is moving a player up from your own minor league roster, like I did with Owings earlier this week, OK? To me that seems in the same spirit as moving someone from your reserve list to your active roster, but I don't think that issue had been addressed specifically.

I just made a move that I'm not sure if it's legitimate, and if it isn't Juan can adjust the scoring accordingly. It has now been announced that Jennings is definitely going on the DL (even though the move isn't yet official). I believe we said in Spring Training that it was OK to put a player on our DL if it was stated he was going on the major league DL but just hadn't been done officially yet. Accordingly I put Jennings on my DL and picked up Doug Davis, who is scheduled to start on Sunday, to replace the start I lost from Jennings; that would still give me only 6 starts for the week. If I misunderstood that ruling Juan can take away the points Davis gets for me tomorrow (or if I see a statement from him that it isn't OK before the game starts I'll reserve him myself).

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous.

Example A: I have 5 starters. My 5 starters are each pitching once next week. My opponent has 7 starters. Each one is pitching once next week. He's allowed to switch out his pitchers to get 7 starts, but I can't switch anyone out because I don't have anyone to switch out to get extra starts.

My opponent can switch out his reserves agaisnt me because he has extra pitchers, but I can't switch out my reserves because they are all offensive players. That's a silly rule.

How about a vote?

But I asked Juan for clarification of the rule before the draft. Knew that I would want a couple of pitchers on my bench to make certain that I would have 7 starts per week and drafted accordingly.

Ok.. could be an interesting day. I have 2 starters, whom are pitching against each other. DJ has none....Hopefully the new pitching stats pay off, and both guys have a good day. I'd love to see a 1-0 game, with both guys going 9 innings. It's all about pitching for me today, and the difference of being 1-1 or 0-2 for the first time ever I believe (maybe not, but I don't remember the year of the Dislocated Shoulders very well.. that year sucked!)

LAA at Boston, Washington at New York Mets, and Houston at Philadelphia already postponed for today. Unless the storm doesn't turn into the monster predicted there will probably be no baseball played in any of those cities over the next several days either, since it's expected to become a slow-moving, full-blown nor'easter.
