One thought I've come up with I'd like to bring up for debate. How about a policy where you can make one substitution at each position each week, with the stipulation that, once you make a change, you need to keep the replacement in your lineup the rest of the week for better or worse? It seems to me that it would be a clearly understood rule that's easy to follow, allows some flexibility, yet avoids the potential abuse of continuously substituting throughout the week that Juan's concerned with (and legitimately so, in my opinion). It just seems to me that's a possible compromise that addresses legitimate concerns on both sides. Just my :twocents: .

How many substitutions are there really going to be? There are only 3 reserves. If a team is carrying 2 extra pitchers, they only have 1 reserve to switch out on offense. Whereas, allowing 6 or 7 pitchers to get starts to get your magic 7 starts gives that team an upperhand over a team that only has 5 starters and 3 reserves.

Typically, I'm not going to switch out my starting offensive players. But, I could have if I knew Sexson and Guillen were going to sit for a whole series or a predetermined postponement.

And the argument to me is quite valid. Why allow pitching substitutions but not offensive substitutions? More than anything, clarify the rule.

allowing people to make one substitution at each week would be hard to police.
It would be; it would be dependent on the league members being honest enough to make self-policing practical.

If you had told me this morning that I'd get a combined 8 innings and 11 ER from Z and Harang................................

I don't think there should be any changes during the week, unless a player goes on the DL. If a guy is day-to-day, you lose him.

we've always allowed mid-week subs for guys who were hurt, but not on the DL. you just can't put them on your DL.

Dammit, now I may not get my 7 starts this week even with Owings. Jennings has been scratched from his start tomorrow due to tendinitis.

Halladay and Bonderman putting on a show. Gonna catch Tim tonight. Woohoo!

Both went 9 innings and each only gave up an earned run. Meanwhile, Oswalt got worked.

throw strikes, myers, you stupid piece of ****.

at least ensberg's doing some of the damage...

We have pitchers scheduled to go against each other tonight (Sheets vs. Reyes), but the game is being delayed by rain. At least if it is rained out it will cancel out by hurting us equally. And interestingly I have Sheets in another league, so whenever the game is played it will help me in one league and hurt me in another.

What the hell? Halladay is pitching the 10th?

wow, that got you back in the game quickly.

Bonderman isn't going to get credit for a complete game even though he went 9 innings.

It's all about my pitching. 11 of my 12 starts so far this year have been QS.

I am starting to get some pitching too.

But ever since I started going on about my killer offense, well it hasn't been killer. I should learn not to trash talk, but heck that is half the fun of this league.

Too bad I didn't keep Duke last year...not.

I agree. We will continue with changes only on Sunday unless there is an injury.

so can we make pitching changes mid-week in an effort to get seven starts?

Unfortunately both... Although i like Lou more than Dusty, I see very big similarities.

Damn you, LaLoser. Reyes pushed back to Monday (instead of just one day) because of last night's rainout. It looks like only 5 starts for me this week (because of Jennings missing a start).

So, I had Escobar go on the DL yesterday. He had a scheduled start today. Am I allowed to pick up a starter to take his place?

For the record, that only puts me at 5 starts this week. For some reason Capuano, who pitched Sunday vs the Cubs, doesn't go again til Monday, thus has 0 starts this week. Hamels pitched Monday and goes today.

I already picked up a guy who starts today, so let me know if that's legal or not.
