I'm going to be somewhat conservative here and say that we can still keep the current Wrigley.. and just improve it with the new ownership. Maybe they can take on the new plans we had a few years back?

Oh, that wasn't that long ago, was it? I thought this was proposed maybe a year ago. Not too much longer.

Can't build on the lakefront. City law. The only buildings allowed east of Lake Shore Drive are already there. They want to preserve the lakefront.

Northerly Island??

There were already buildings there. Hell, there was an airport there. I think the law means that no new land can be used for buildings. They can't take away part of a park or beach to build something new. They can probably tear down and rebuild where the buildings already existed though.

Right. I was just suggesting it as a possible spot for my fantasy park. ;)

Ahh, my mistake. Actually, that would be a great place for a ballpark.

I'm in the extreme minority, but I've just never been that enamored with Wrigley Field.

Yes, it is old, but that just feeds into the "the game is going downhill and everything was better about baseball when I was a kid" syndrome that baseball fans have been indulging in since the 1800s.

It's pretty during the daytime, but most ballparks are. Everything is just so darned cramped (parking, seating, concourses).

I, for one, wouldn't shed a tear to see it sold to the White Sox with the Cubs moving into some spiffy, modern "Cubs Stadium."

thats too close to the sox and traffic would be a pain in the arse like after bears games.

imagine a cubs game and bears game going on at the same time :!:

if Zell keeps it, that means the white sox own it since Zell partially owns the sox

Yea, but that would happen what, maybe one or two times a year, maybe three if the Cubs are in the playoffs?

Anyway, we're talking about Chicago, where anything can occur as long as the right palms* are greased.

*Or for that matter, even the left palms.

I'm from Chicago (well, suburbs) and I wouldn't mind a new stadium, assuming it's done right, at all.

It could go either way.

I have to agree with you davhern. I grew up in the north suburbs and I always dreaded fighting the traffic on Irving Park Rd coming from/heading towards 94... same goes for taking the scenic drive down Sheridan Rd. along the lake. And the parking absolutely STINKS! Always has, always will...

I always thought and said the Cubs should build a new stadium out near the Tri-State... JMO.

I want to see a beautiful new stadium that seats 55 thousand people with a huge open parking lot full of trees and brick walkways. In a nice neighborhood which is easy to get to. With bricks and ivy, and that old classic look. It shall be called Wrigley Field.

No, it doesn't mean that. It means Zell owns it personally. Zell's share in the White Sox and his other personal holdings are completely separate.

if they can keep the leaning tower of Pisa standing, they can keep Wrigley together. It'll just take money and incentive, I suggest the incentive be many many many laws.

Let's not have another soldier field here.

Come on guys, this isn't LA. Use the available public transportation. The following for weekend or night games or take the L for weekday games.

http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/ballpark/directions.jsp

The Chicago Cubs operate a shuttle and parking service at the DeVry University campus located off Addison St. and Western Avenue for all weekend and night games. For $6.00 you can park your vehicle and all occupants ride the shuttle free to and from the ballpark. Take advantage of the savings with the easy in and out of our secure remote parking facility. The first shuttle leaves two and one half hour prior to the game. The shuttle runs for one hour after all Night Games and for two hours after all Weekend Day Games.

Good point.

There's also park n' rides at Howard, and Skokie.

I rather enjoy riding the El to the games. I've done it since I was a kid w/ my Dad. Lack of parking @ Wrigley has never been a concern. I actually like the fact that the ballpark isn't surrounded by parking lots.

Come on everyone. Wrigley field must be preserved.

We must fight for it. I've been to every city. Wrigley is by far the best.

For those of you who want a ballpark in the suburbs, that's very selfish of you.

Some of us don't drive.

One of the things that I don't see people talking about on here is the possible ramifications to Wrigley Field. I wonder what a new owner is going to do with a staduim that had a block of concrete fall, and that is undergoing a number of different projects from parking to seat expansion.

One of the things that I'm worried about is that a new owner is going to say that the Cubs need a new staduim (or a rebuild on the old one) in order to drive new revenue, and it just might come packaged in "We want all fans attending to be safe". I think Wrigley needs some loving care, but I don't want to see it rebuilt or a new stadium personally.

Yes, Wrigley Field must be preserved

Rosenbloom is a moron. I can't believe that guy has a radio show. Salisbury has started to grow on me, but Rosenboom makes some of the dumbest, most ridiculous comments I've ever heard.

But you have to admit, he has the Daley administration and Wrigleyville residents absolutely pegged in this blog.

Bears and wsox deals go through without a hitch, Tribune faces nothing but questions and trouble with anything that they try to do with the Cubs/Wrigley. Cubs can't maintain Wrigley in any way without getting City Council approval and paying into the Wrigleyville cash pot for neighborhood "improvements". It's crap.

I realize that I'm in the minority here....

but the Cubs should be playing in a better ballpark than Wrigley Field. Tear it down, whatever I don't care. Build a winner and if that requires a better ballpark for more revenue then so be it.
