Sheets is good....really, really good at baseball.

I more than agree that he is good---great even-- but so is Kerry Wood (not quite the same control however) but he hasn't shown that he can stay healthy longterm. That's why I'm not getting excited... Besides, I'm not interested in a divisional foe doing well (even if he is good).

Sheets has had one injury in his 6 year career that just happened to span the end of one year and the start of another. Its not like the guy is injury prone and should be expected to fall apart at any minute. He's been healthy and throwing fine for 8 months now.

By "fine" he means dominating.

I can't wait til he prices himself out of Milwaukee.

Didn't we hit him pretty well in 04 or 05? Not that it matters, send his ass to the highest bidder.

The jury is still out on Sheets' longterm health. He got injured in the second half of his rookie year (shut down with shoulder tendinitis) then proceeded to have a very successful 3 year run without injuries. However, he only made 22 starts in 2005 and 17 starts in 2006. It's fair to say the jury is out. I just think that shoulder problems can have lingering effects.

Seems like King Felix is off to an equally well start. Granted, his game isn't over yet, but as of right now he's 6.2IP 0ER 3H 2BB 10K

I say this because the guy I'm playing in one of my fantasy leagues was bragign about how ben sheets is going to kick my pitchings ass. That and Baseball Tonight made the premature decision of giving the pitching performance of the day award to Ben Sheets before the evening games even started.

Scratch that: 11K's now. Wow.

Sheets is amazing. I'd love to have him on this team. A guy who has nasty stuff and doesn't walk many people are rare.

I threw both Sheets and King Felix in my fantasy league today.

Myers didn't do too bad for Philly either.

Recently as in 2 years ago? Hes a FA after next year. Brewers should trade him for Hughes and Tabata after this season.

i didn't realize it was only a four year extension that included two of his free agent years.

i don't know why the brewers would want to trade him after this season. they should be pretty good this year, and even better next year.

Because they have zero percent chance of resigning him?

If hes healthy they will be able to get a SIGNIFICANTLY better package than keeping Sheets for a year and getting a couple draft picks. It wouldn't be the fan friendly move and it might be the tough move if the Brewers think they have a shot at the WS next year, but it would be a move that would ensure they would continue to have a shot at the WS for the next 4 years or so.

there is a 100% chance that they do not a 0% chance of re-signing him.

they threw a bunch of money at suppan and they've shown the willingness to spend in the past couple years. plus, sheets seems like he wants to stay there.

his back problems go back to at least 2002. Sheets had back surgery in October 2004. he missed five weeks in 2005 because of an ear infection, had back problems in the middle of 2005, missed five weeks for the shoulder tear at the end of 2005, missed the beginning of 2006 because of his back (not his shoulder), shoulder tendinitis/strain (not the same injury as 2005) in May shelved him most of the season.

so in sum, you are completely wrong in your assessment of Ben Sheets' injury history.

Well the back injury in 2002 didn't seem to affect him cause he still went on to throw 216 innings that year. Then he threw 220. Then he threw 237.

I think last year he just came in out of shape, he certainly looked it. He's got to be exceptionally strong the way his mechanics work, otherwise his arm could seriously lag behind his body causing shoulder problems. I've always liked the way Sheets pitched, but it's not the easiest on the body.

No, the 2005 and 2006 injuries were 100% related. Yes he had back surgery, post season surgery for soreness in his back but he didn't miss any time because of it and was still effective after it so hard to really make a fuss over it. The ear infection is not an injury. The guy has had one major injury that stopped him from pitching and spanned the end of 1 year and the start of another. Its still very hard to look at his career and call him injury prone.

There is no way the Yankees do that trade.

just saying it with conviction doesn't make it so. the injury in 2005 and March 2006 was in the back of his shoulder. the May-June 2006 injury was tendinitis, with pain in the front of his shoulder. I've never heard anything about them being related whatsoever. then he hurst a chest muscle in August last year. even the ear infection was a recurring thing, although I don't know if he's had any problems since surgery. the post season surgery for soreness in his back was repair of two herniated discs, not the minor 'off-season' tweak you make it out to be.

if nothing else, it adds up to multiple missed starts due to back problems which resulted in surgery, multiple missed starts due to the ear, which resulted in surgery, a torn muscle which resulted in surgery, and tendinitis in his shoulder, and a strained chest muscle.

hey, Kerry Wood has only had three injuries in his career. his elbow, his shoulder, and his back. just so happens they spanned 7 of his 9 years.
