Shane and I match up a couple of powerhouse offenses and suspect pitching.

On Shane's side, the offensive core is incredible with Howard, Utley, Lee & Bonds. Young is tough. Hunter, Mora and Griffey aren't what they used to be but are still productive.

My offense is also strong at the top with a core of Pujols, Reyes, Abreu, Holliday and Martinez. There's a bunch of young players that will be the difference between a good offense and a great one. Weeks, Gordon, Delmon and Conor are all guys that could be near the top at their positions, but will it happen this year?

Shane's staff has a couple big question marks, though I love the flier on Greinke after the spring he's had. Dice-K, Schmidt and Bedard give him three very solid pitchers. The relief core...Mac, Proctor and Sanchez won't get many saves, but Sanchez could work some big innings in the pen and throw up some pretty impressive numbers there.

My staff will be much improved in a few weeks when Unit and Little Weaver return. In the meantime, Oswalt & Garland anchor the staff. Verlander looked very shaky early in spring, but improved as it went along. Will the innings catch up with him, though? Robertson is a nice fill-in guy, but nothing more than that. Kip Wells could do anything and is a very big question mark. The relief core looks pretty strong, though, with Mariano, Hoffman & Valverde.

It's going to be a good matchup between two of the stronger offensive teams. It may come down to some of the question marks on the staff and how they do. The starts look to be even at 6-6, though that could be impacted by weather or changes in rotation.

Let's play some baseball!

wow, pitching is worth more points this year.

Total bases allowed will knock Carp's points down significantly overnight. If I'm not mistaken, he allowed 10 tba, which will bring his score down to 5.75. Glavine allowed either 6 or 7 tba, which will bring his score down to 18.25 or 19.25.

No points for QS this year, so that's just a little bit more than Glavine's start would have earned him last year.

sounds about right. I haven't entered the schedule right so I will enter the rest of the season sometime this week.

Juan, is the roadkill scoreboard calculating pitching points correctly???

Glavine has 19 points in the 5th???

I don't see ANY problems with that!!!

Yay, Furcal on the DL.

That was announced a while back.

So...Garland + Hughes/Garza for Harden...

I knew he had been hurt, but I don't think it became official until yesterday. Hopefully Omar can get some points here and there for the time being.

Sorry, I think I'll pass. Garland?

Well, the new scoring for pitchers REALLY emphasizes guys who can pitch a lot of innings. The Garland's of the world who are locks for 210-220 IP will score pretty well.

Thanks for the info. I'm not that familiar with the scoring. But wouldn't getting hammered offset any points for getting innings?

There are stiff negatives with -1 points for every total base allowed and -2.5 points for every run allowed. But there's also a positive 4.5 points for every inning completed. Garland is a pretty good bet to get 210-220 IP mulitplied by that 4.5 as a basis to work backwards from.

Harden has a huge upside, but also has a lot of risk of injury associated with him. There's only one season that they've both been in the bigs that Harden has outscored Garland as a result.

Plus, you'd be getting one of the top young arms in the game who has plenty of exemptions remaining as the lions share of the value. I think I'm well set up to make a run this year, so I'm willing to sacrifice this future value for Harden's potential upside. I guess you have to consider whether you're in a position to make a run this year or whether it is better to try and get a couple pieces that can help for this year and the future, as well.

I like to measure things based on average finish over the past three years.
