Over/under on number of posts before someone advocates signing him?

I'm gonna go with one post before you rip on him.

I don't think its "ripping" at all. Look at the numbers they haven't been very good. I loved what he did for the Cubs, but that was obviously a bit of a fluke year.

He was good with the Red Sox for a couple years

IIRC, he was 3rd or 4th on the Red Sox in RBI when the won the World Series in 2004.

Caution.."ripping" to follow...

2005: .210/.324/.357/.681

2006: .190/.285/.344/.629

Is that a guy you would really want on your team? That is what I used to back up my "he's sucked" comment.

the cubs dont need either of these guys right now imo. they have derosa, theriot & cedeno along with ep, moore & fontenot in the minors.

Everytime Bellhorn's name is brought up you take it upon yourself to try to be a killjoy(even though no one really wants him on the team anymore), and started a thread about it this time. I don't really care, we all have our favorites and anti-favorites, I just found it funny how it was pretty apparent you started the thread so you could point out how terrible he is.

Not to mention the fact he was awesome in his role as a lead off guy here. Who did we give up to get him? Nobody worth anything. The guy is still the best lead off hitter the Cubs have had in the 2000's, and arguably better than anyone they had in the '90's.

The fact Dusty couldn't recognize where Bellhorn's value was best served isn't exactly a shocker. There were a lot of things Dusty was clearly clueless about.

But hey, let's continue making fun of a former Cub. Especially one of the very few former Cubs that actually was worthy of an occasional standing ovation in 2002.

And even though Bellhorn's value is no longer what it was when he was a Chicago Cub, I still wouldn't trade him straight up for Jose Hernandez.

Yes, it is my personal goal to disparage Bellhorn. I live for it! :)

I would disagree when you say "no one wants him on the team anymore", he has quite the cult following around here.

I think there's a distinction. UK posting a picture of the Horny wagon doesn't mean he wants Bellhorn for 2B. In this thread most of the people were being facetious or concluded they didn't want him.

I know UK is kidding...

No problem. Different strokes for different folks.

Doesn't matter to me that people like, or liked him.

If Tomas Perez had beaten Cedeno for the 25th spot on the roster, I'd say the Cubs would be better off taking a chance with Bellhorn. At least Bellhorn didn't always suck. TWalk would be better still than Bellhorn under that scenario. Fortunately, Lou made it easy on us by cutting Perez. Now we don't have to debate the relative merits of Mark Bellhorn and Tomas Perez, said merits being scant and unimpressive.

There's no question in my mind that Cedeno is a better option than Bellhorn. Walker vs. Cedeno is worth debating only because Ronny might benefit from some consistent ABs in Iowa getting all that Dusty coaching out of his system.

I am grateful for what both Bellhorn and Walker did for this team as Cubs and enjoyed watching both play in Cubbie blue, but I have no interest in seeing them back with the team.

I am fairly optimistic about the offensive lineup this team will put on the field opening day, sans the starting shortstop. And I had no idea that DeRosa is as good defensively as he had appeared to be over the last few ST games.

The Cubs seem like they have a good balance coming out of spring training with almost everyone having a fairly well-defined role going into the season. Absent the availability of someone who could really make a difference, I don't see any value in making marginal changes over the next week.
