If DeRosa tanks with a .405 OBP then I will be very happy.

Its ST. That's see what happens in the reg season. If DeRosa stinks on all levels my guess is that Lou will bench him and give Theriot a shot.

Don't count Theriot out to start some games at 2B if he gets red hot:

"Invariably, what will happen is the people who are doing the jobs are the ones who will get more at-bats and more innings..." "It's a simple thing with me: [if] you want your name in the lineup and you want to get the ball, get the job done."

Also, it looks like Cedeno will be the 25th man barring a last minute change.

But after working with former shortstop Alan Trammell, Cedeno's fielding has improved this spring and he's considered a cinch to make the final roster next week.

"I've been very comfortable with seeing the progress Cedeno has made in camp," manager Lou Piniella said. "We've asked him to do a few things both defensively and offensively, and he has responded.

"I told [general manager Jim Hendry] this morning, I don't think we need to go out and do anything, unless he really thinks we're going to improve our team. I'm comfortable with all the pieces we have here. We can make it work with what we have here."

Barring a letdown in the final week, Cedeno will be the backup shortstop...

Cedeno can be flat out amazing with the glove. It's the routine plays that give him trouble. I think Lou's coaching staff wll help him big time. Repitition gets rid of the routine errors.

Lots of love for Theriot on the call-in shows.

Yeah, I was listening to that. I'm hoping Lou can find some way to get Ryan more AB's, I think he's at least earned that.

It's been an interesting week for Theriot. 8 singles in 14 ABs with no walks. His OBP=SLG.

04/09 - 04/15 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP

I wonder if that's a sustainable batting average on balls in play...

The offense Sunday came mainly from Ryan Theriot, who collected three of the Cubs' four hits and has guaranteed himself more playing time after going 8-for-12 in the series while filling in at third base for injured Aramis Ramirez.

"I'm going to play people who are getting the job done, and he's swinging the bat well," Piniella said. "We've got to find a place to put him. The kid deserves to play."

Good to hear.

Yea, I seriously hope that Ramirez and DeRosa come back soon so that getting Riot the ABs he's earned is at the expense of people that seriously need to stay out of the lineup.

At the very least, Theriot should start at 2B against every LHP with DeRosa in RF. He could also work in at SS and 3B to give Izturis and Ramirez breaks IF he doesn't take over at SS full time, which he might.

Better yet, if Lou is really serious about "shaking things up" why not go all out:

Theriot SS

Murton/Floyd LF

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Soriano CF

Jones RF

Barrett C

DeRosa 2B

Thats the best lineup I've seen to date. Look I know that the Soriano deal was set up with him being the leadoff hitter, but it was also set up for him to be the LF/RF and he had no problem moving to center to help the team out. I don't think he would be that opposed to moving down in the lineup, especially given his struggles at the leadoff spot. I think he's definately pressing and i think moving him down several spots may be the change he needs, instead of being asked to leadoff every game and set the table.

I'm sure he can keep that up, no problem.

I wasn't aware there was an Izturis thing to get into. He's been awful, offensively and defensively, since showing up last year. He didn't even have the common courtesy to have a fluke April to mask how horrible he is. The OPS is already below 600 and we might be lucky to see that OBP ever cross back over .300.

Well, he did have a fluke March, in games that don't count. :D

Doesn't DeRosa bat very well against LHP? If so it doesn't make sense to have Theriot at 2B against them then. The solution is simple. get rid of Izturis (completely out of here if possible) and make Theriot our starting SS with Cedeno backing him up.

He said at the very least have Theriot at 2B with DeRosa in RF-allowing both of them to play against a LHP, and taking Jacque out of the lineup against a LHP, which I think everybody wants also. The good thing is that this happened the first time around, although flipped (DeRosa at 2nd, Theriot in RF).

That does make sense.

Right. I don't have a problem with that either, but it just seems to make more sense to have DeRosa in RF as he would seem to be better there (just based purely on experience).
