Call them out Vance and keep calling them out. If this is a token contest then they should call it such. When they report an inaccurate vote total, then it calls all of their reporting into questioning. I plan to get in contact with them as well.

According to today's paper, "The Houston Astros still have a commanding lead in the polling to name Your Home Team, despite another round of Internet message-board driven votes for the Chicago Cubs."

How they are aware of this, I don't know.

Tim, are you getting any hits other than mine from a Monroe IP?

Anyway, let's see if they can survive another round today.

Let's send in the calvary!

There's a spy...

$20 says it's Raisin.

Yeah, make Vance suffer!

You guys think Tim has guest viewership blocked so the folks at Desipio don't see NSBB? It's really so the folks at Monroe can't tally how many Internet votes Vance rounded up.

What does this tell you? Major League Baseball (Derrek Lee ASB voting) is less crooked than the Monroe News Star.

This sounds like a sponsorship situation for NSBB. I'm sure it can't cst that much. I'm seeing something that starts off as follows:

Cub fans: Looking for information after getting hosed? Tired of your voice not being heard?

Actually, a pre-printed letter was circulated with a place for name and address at the bottom. 100 of those were signed and addressed.

I had some help with it.

Maybe that's why they weren't counted. I could see them throwing those out as one person's attempt to put their team over the top.

Well, each was signed by an actual person with an address on it as well. I know they counted some of them, because the vote fro Karylon Thorton was one of them. There was nothing that said votes had to be hand-written.

I have no clue, but they did register today.

If the Monroe News Star isn't accountable for something as trivial as a 'hometown team' newspaper poll, what does that say for its credibility in more meaningful journalistic endeavors? You can take the measure of a person by how he treats the weakest and most vulnurable -- you, sirs, have failed the most preliminary test of journalistic integrity.

It's a shame but hardly surprising that the results of your 'poll' were pre-ordained. Please don't waste your not-so-dear readers' time next year with your traveshamockery of a poll -- just dictate to us what our interests should be and demand our cooperation as you force-feed us your lukewarm pablum. Thank goodness that internet technology has rendered journalistic fiefdoms obsolete and that your shackles of ignorance can be broken with a mere click of the mouse!

I just want to add this quote from the article...

Karylon Thornton, 14, of Monroe agreed: “With the new addition of Lou Piniella and Alfonso Soriano, the Cubs are going to be exciting to watch in 2007.”

The kid spelled both the names right, too, something even we have problems with.

Apparently they have problems with spelling and basic math.

Ok, that last forum entry was hilarious!

Was that someone here, or is a local getting in on the chastisement.

Unfortunately, Ignatius was taken, so Ignatious had to do.

O:)

No response from them?

Don't expect one.

I've learned from other experiences, that the paper does as it pleases and doesn't think it must answer to anyone. I think that is a result of being the only newspaper in town.

On all fronts, that paper has an agenda. The only people they answer to are the big bosses at Gannet.

Well, if you want to track down a way to complain to Gannett, count me in.

Also, there is about a .002% chance you could report the incident to media-watchdog Matt Drudge and he'd run it. That would surely draw the ire of their bosses at Gannett.

Why complain when you were sending in fake leters and whatnot? I would have tossed all your fake letters too.

There was nothing fake about the letters. They were signed by real people who put real addresses on them.

The emails may have been one thing, but these letters were signed by real people who live right here in Monroe.

This makes me want to start reading a local newspaper, just so I can find an excuse to plagiarize (sp) this and send it in. Hilarious!!
