i'm willing to bet that the cubs votes outnumber the astros votes but these clowns already decided to cover the astros, they're just making it look like the people actually have a vote.

This could be true. But I have heard from a good source that a large number of signed letters voting for the Cubs will be turned in this afternoon.

I'd agree with that statement.

When they announce that the Astros won the contest by some absurd margin, let's start a group effort to get people to cancel their subscriptions to the paper. ha ha

Today's paper says the Astros have a lead, though they no longer claim it's a commanding lead. This despite 80 paper votes for the Cubs that were turned in yesterday. I'm likely not able to do any more voting this morning due to scheduling, but voting ends at noon.

If you haven't voted, one email is all I ask.

Thanks guys. It's probably a hopeless cause, but let's give it one last try.

Well, you guys were right. We got screwed.

Here's the link to the article.

19 percent of 449= 85.31

Not including any email votes, I know that signed letters totaled over 100 votes for the Cubs. So, however they are doing it, the votes do not add up.

By the way, my niece is extremely happy to have here name in the paper again!

yea, i think this is bull....surely they got more than 449 total votes....i would call them out on it....send a letter to the editor and keep sending one until they reply to it in the paper.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, if anything. Probably nothing...but this does prove it's rigged. I can understand scrutiny with the email votes, maybe...but there were over 100 signed letters for the Cubs that I know were dropped off at the front desk of the newspaper. The first batch dropped off around 2 pM on Wednesday had 20 votes in it and the second one dropped off around 3 PM Thursday had over 80. That's 100 votes there not counting the email ones.

So, I don't know who is doing the counting, but they aren't doing a decent job of it. I know that all of the "letters" dropped off were signed with an address that is local, so if they wanted to verify them, they could.

I think they don't want to cover anyone but the Astros, but if they went by geography, the Rangers make more sense than the Astros. To make it make sense to their bosses (this is a Gannett run newspaper), they utilize this poll. Of course, they have to fix the results so that they don't have to cover the Cubs.

Speak kindly of the King Fish. We're distantly related. :)

Actually, a pre-printed letter was circulated with a place for name and address at the bottom. 100 of those were signed and addressed.

I had some help with it.

I left this comment on the comments section under the story.

I think the boys at the newsstar need to learn to count. According to the article, 19% of the votes were cast for the Cubs. To get 19% of 449, multiply 449 x .19. The product of that is 85.31, so that means 85 votes for the Cubs. I know for a fact that over 100 votes were turned in for the Cubs. 20 of those were dropped off at the front desk approximately 2:00 PM on Wednesday and another 82 votes at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday. Each of these were signed with an address. That's 102 votes right there, not counting other email votes.

If the contest is going to be pre-decided or votes thrown out, I think people should be made aware of this.
