That's right. It's that time.

Last year, we were screwed out by the Astros. The won by a mere 17 votes. Let's not let it happen this year!

As many of you know, my crappy local paper lets readers choose the "home team" for baseball coverage through an email and letter writing campaign. To vote, all you have to do is send an email to sports@thenewsstar.com and state that you'd like to vote for the Cubs as Northeast Louisiana's home team.

I think they are trying to thwart my efforts this year after we came so close last year. First, voting ends Friday. Last year, there were at least 2 weeks of voting. Secondly, the announcement of the contest has only appeared in the print editions.

So, please...send a vote (or many) to sports@thenewsstar.com

Or you can send a fax to: 318-362-0279.

Also, if you are in the Monroe area and want to mail in a vote----the Astros beat us by having many letters sent in, you can dowload a form letter I typed here.

Send those to: Your Home Team, 411 N. Fourth St., Monroe, LA, 71201.

Thanks everyone!

If we get 500 votes, we win in a landslide.

Shouldn't you be able to handle this yourself, Vance?

You singlehandedly voted DLee into the All-Star Game in 05 ;)

I think they threw out some of my suspicious emails last year. Unlike the AS vote, I actually have to be able to access the email addresses to vote with them. With the AS vote, I just used emails from my spam box since I didn't have to actually send anything from them.

And I can count on you sending a vote in a few minutes, right?

Didn't you get your name in the paper over this last year?

Yes. And they also quoted me a few times with bogus names as well.

And you've already sent your vote, right?

Vance, this sounds like an excellent class project, no?

It would be if we weren't in the midst of state standardized testing week. Because of that, most of the day is spent in testing.

And does your response mean I can count on you for a vote?

Very nice!

Make this a Chicago tradition. Vote early. Vote often!

I sent an email to vote.

Excellente!

I have several friends in the Monroe/West Monroe area that are White Sox fans, so maybe this will piss them off!

Ha ha!

If you have any that are Cub fans, send them the link to the letter. If they fill it out and email it to me, I'll take care of the postage.
