Minnesota needs pitching....trade Miller, and Ohmen for Luis Castilla....DeRosa becomes your utility guy.

Imagine the problems that could cause... DeRosa signed here, for 3 years, to be a starter and Theriot has already been promised the utility role.

Makes me wish maybe we should have made a run at Belliard. Just an afterthought.

I like your new sig Navigator. I like it very much. High Five!

Ok...ok...ok...so move DeRosa over to short, Castilla is your 2b...Theriot stays as utility guy and Isturiz is your back up middle infielder/defensive replacement.

Gabrielle Union is high on my list. :D

Mine too. I bet she would look great at SS.

SS, 2B, RF, or on the bench she's going to look great.

Looks like the Cubs were sniffing around after Woodward. The Atlanta Journal Constitution's Braves Blog has this to say:

Talked to a scout before the game who had spoken with a Cubs official this week and heard they (Cubs) are looking for a utility man. Chris Woodward’s name was mentioned, but I don’t know whether the Braves are considering moving him or not.

He hasn’t played a game yet because of his strained calf, but Bobby Cox said this morning that Woodward might play tomorrow.

He hasn't played due to injury so he might not be a continued target.

Braves.com has a new article up about Tony Pena Jr. He is out of options and in danger of not making the club because of the presence of Chris Woodward. So it could be that the Braves have decided to keep Woodward and shop Pena.

...With Chris Woodward and Willy Aybar slated to begin the season as the club's utility infielders, there doesn't seem to be an available roster spot for the ever-improving Pena. And even if Woodward or Aybar were to begin the season on the disabled list, Pete Orr might be the more likely candidate to fill that utility role.

However, Orr does have options, and the Braves could instead replace either Woodward or Aybar with Pena just to give themselves a better chance to keep his services.

"You can't play any better than Tony Pena has played," manager Bobby Cox said. "He's got real good range -- excellent range. His hands are good. He hit .280 last year, didn't he?"

"...He's not an out. He's a tough cookie at the plate, and he'll battle you all the way to the end."

..."He's been blessed with ability, plus range and a plus arm that allows him to make plays that a lot of shortstops aren't able to make"

Sounds to me like Cox is talking Pena up. The guy had a .312 OBP in AAA last season as a 25-year-old. He might be good with the glove, but so are a lot of guys.

Jaque Jones for Todd Walker anyone?

Nope. Novoa for Walker sounds like a better idea. The Padres would love to move Walker's contract. I wouldn't send them anything remotely useful.

I'd love this to happen, mainly just to laugh at how we got Todd Walker and Jose Ceda for Todd Walker and Roberto Novoa over a 6 month period.

Agree to take Neifi and his contract back if the Tigers will send Campusano back.

I actually like that. I also like Neifi over Tomas Perez by a long shot.

If we have to have an extra crap MIF on the roster, I'd rather it be one without any kind of "reputation", so the manager doesnt feel the need to play him.

The Rockies are going with Tulowitzski at SS. That leaves Matsui, Carroll, and Barmes. One of those might be available.

Also, in Tampa the last utility spot is down to Upton or Harris. If it's Upton, Harris could be placed on waivers.

Those are a couple of possibilities.

Also, Rey Rnez could get let go by Seattle.

Is Macias available?

I've said it before; I'll say it again. If we're going for Braves infielders, I want Yunel Escobar.

you'd have to pry him from Bowden's cold, dead hands

I like Escobar better too in the longrun but he has a half season between rookie ball and Low-A before his 2006 season at AA when he batted .264. Can we really expect him to perform at the major league level yet? And even if the potential is there for it to occur, would he fit the current need by potentially not being any more ready than Cedeno?

Seriously Neifi will be available. The Tigers are leaning heavily towards Ramon Santiago and we all know Leyland unwisely made some tactless statements about Neifi. It wouldn't surprise me if they eat $2M just to be rid of him.

If Perez is released and Lou asks for a middle infielder, you know Jim is coming a'callin.

I've been scared about this ever since I got the impression we were looking for another MI. I'm just hoping we get one before Neifi is made available.
