He's not tied up in the trunk of Stoney's car...

Have you heard Bob has been replaced? I just figured that he had some prior commitments since it was only spring training. Bob was there for the broadcast last Sunday.

billy butler vs guzman

fastball 94 mph 1-0

gooz softly checks runner

95 mph fastball outside 2-0

runner goes - fox's throw is way late 3-0 (mostly on Guzman's delivery)

groundball to Theriot at third base

Side retired. 5-2 Royals after 6 innings.

Nice outting by Guzman. Great sequences, solid velo, crisp movement, and didn't get rattled after Theriot didn't come up with that grounder to end the inning.

Sounds like most of you had unreasonable expectations of Prior after his previous start.

What kind of unreasonable expectations are you talking about? I think there's a good chance that Prior as we knew him is gone.

He threw 83-84 mph last game and it sounds like people were hoping he'd be back into the 90s and have good control again. It's not going to happen in a day, might never happen, but this game doesn't prove that he's done.

Agreed. There was a little improvement this time and he still has 4 more outings to go in ST. As long as he keeps improving, even just a bit, with each outing, it's a good thing. I don't mind him starting the season in Iowa as long as he's on track to getting back to being a competitive pitcher. I don't need him being a superman this early...it would be nice, but it's not necessary for me to have hope.

The problem, for the Cubs, with Prior starting at Iowa is how do you reintroduce him into the rotation if his replacement is pitching lights out? I think it's very important, for Prior's future with the Cubs, to get himself together by the start of the season. If he doesn't show measurable improvement by the time a fifth starter is needed, I can easily see Lou going with someone else (Possibly Angel). This is why, I think, the Cubs prefer Mark to step up and earn the last spot. It's far less messy...

What would you do if Angel was pitching well for the Cubs but Prior was a bit better? How do you remove someone who has been helping the team win?

Theriot's looked good throwing across the diamond. I'm gonna like him as the utility guy.

seconded

One of his throws was to the wrong side of 1B and he muffed that sharp grounder, but other than that, he's been solid.

I think its be crazy for Guzman to not be the leader to be the 5th starter right now..The guy is throwing mid 90's while no one else can even hit 90, and has better movement and command than both Prior and Miller

theriot vs duckworth

fastball outside 1-0

groundout to SS

throw pulled firstbaseman off bag, but applied tag as theriot hustled to the bag

2 down. runner scores.

5-3 royals.

Then I'd move Prior up so he can hopefully keep doing well in the bigs and sell someone on a decent trade.

Priors arm slot looks different. its not at a low as Z's but seems lower than before. he doesnt look to throw over the top as much. could be me.

No, I was thinking that too.

Thirded.

This is concerning. Why is he changing his arm slot? His curve was good and had good bite so thats kinda weird since he's not over the top as much. Im satisfied with the velocity today, nothing spectatular but as been stated its progress.

You mean trade Prior or Angel (the replacement)?

I'm sure Bob just had a commitment - Plesac drives me crazy. The less of him the better.
