Our boys were swinging at a lot more pitches today. Anybody know how the final tally for walks compares to yesterday's?

I believe it was 6 walks for the Padres game yesterday, and 3 walks today. Those 3 walks are still more than last years average though.

As nice as Iowa's pitching will be, can anyone fathom how bad the defense could be with Cedeno at SS, Patterson at 2b, and Fox at C. That's pretty ugly up the middle.

I expect Soto to the primary catcher at Iowa. And Ronny won't be as bad at AAA.

Ah yes, I forgot about Soto. Do you think the Cubs will use Soto and Hill at AAA and send Fox to Tennessee?

Yeah. Fox and Chris Robinson at AA.

ETA: Maybe Tony Richie too.

That's the ballgame, folks.

The biggest positives:

Guzman and Lilly looked sharp.

Negative:

Prior still doesn't have it.

But his lack of "it" wasn't quite as disheartening as his last appearance.

Yes, Prior made noticeable improvements.

If I have to listen to much more of Plesac, I'm going to be longing for the days of Joe Carter.

Plesac certainly loves the sound of his own voice.

He wasn't as bad today as he was yesterday, but you got to love how when he does an interview and does nothing but make statements instead of ask questions.

As nice as Iowa's pitching will be, can anyone fathom how bad the defense could be with Cedeno at SS, Patterson at 2b, and Fox at C. That's pretty ugly up the middle.

Moore will probably be at 3rd and his isn't too hot with the glove either. They've got Hoffpauir at first though, and he's pretty good.

It is HoffPOWER, not Hoffpauir. 8-)

What did he do better for those of us who didn't watch?

So word on the street is it's Len and Plesac. What happened to Bob?

This isn't true is it? Please say it's not.

Not for good, but I was wondering why Plesac keeps doing color.

I think he's still talking. God he's horrible.

I thought he was racking up the errors, and was being considered for a move to the outfield ala Kelton because he couldn't handle 3rd defensively but we still wanted his bat?

BA has continued to rate his glove pretty highly. His defense isn't GG-worthy, but it isn't bad. One of the main reasons he's moved around (he even tried a more demanding defensive position at SS) was to see if he could stick at a position where he isn't blocked at the big leagues.

Tim put it best: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Blogs/

Well that is definitely some good news. Hope he continues to improves. How sweet it would be to have a healthy and effective Prior this year.

He made some nice plays at 3b in the games I saw him play against Mississippi last year. I think he has good range and a good arm, but he's a bit erratic at times.

That's my impression of him too, Vance. And his weaknesses are definitely correctable with more experience.

I agree. I like Scott's play. Unfortunately for him, he's blocked at 3b. I'm not sure if we should look to trade him or try to gain him enough versatility to use him as aLH bat on the bench.
