A few highlights...

The Cleveland Browns won the coin toss over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this morning for the rights to the third pick in the NFL Draft. Tampa Bay called heads and the coin landed on heads. The Buccaneers wil select fourth.

Dwayne Bowe of LSU is arguably the best blocking wide receiver in the draft, so it was no surprise how he answered when he was asked which got his teammates more excited, a big block, or a big catch. “I’d have to say a big block. I got a lot of ‘ooohs’ from my teammates with a good crack back block.”

Michigan State quarterback Drew Stanton was asked about a disappointing season. “I try and take a positive out of everything. It’s how you handle adversity. At the next level you’re not always going to be successful, and I think I’ve become a stronger person because of it.” When asked about JaMarcus Russell, Stanton laughed. “I’ve begged him to stay for one more year. I think he’s a great person and he deserves all of the attention he’s getting.”

Wide Receiver Sidney Rice of South Carolina was asked about the quarterback controversy at South Carolina. He was asked who he preferred between Blake Mitchell and Syvelle Newton. “Neither, I just preferred who threw me the ball,” Rice said with a laugh.

Irons measured 5-11/203 and has received the most interest from the Green Bay Packers. He met with their staff for "20 to 25 minutes" Thursday night. Irons believes he'll run in the low 4.4s, and he'd better because he has a bet with his brother, CB David Irons, and if he doesn't run a 4.45 he's not allowed back in the house.

Uh, what? I know it's not your fault Vance (you just copied it), but that author who wrote that must have made a typo somewhere. If TB called heads, and it came heads, how did they not win the third pick? One of those facts must be wrong.

It is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They had the choice of 3rd or 4th pick and evidently liked their chances with the 4th pick more. Sort of like choosing to kick or receive. :D

And it is the Cleveland Browns. They're probably pissed that Tampa took the 4th pick instead of the 3rd pick. :D

I guess Brady Quinn isn't gonna workout. Stupid, IMO.

If I'm an NFL GM and he's not working out after his recent slide, it makes me think he's got something to hide. This could cost him lots of money, but I guess if he slides he'll end up going to a better overall team most likely.

better team means he has even less chance of seeing the field any time soon

If I was him I would not even want to go #1 and get stuck going to the Raiders

Maybe he should start crying about that now. it worked wonders for Manning

He's already stated that he'd like to go to Cleveland at #3 since he's from Ohio, but I don't see it happening. IMO the Browns will take AD, and Quinn will fall down to the Dolphins at #9 or the Panthers at #14.

I don't think so-this happens with top prospects all the time. Jamarcus Russell is not working out at the combine either.

Russell's stock has been rising though. He had an excellent performance at the absolute right time, and also has the strongest arm in the draft. The hype machine is doing all of the work for him, his value is probably maxed out right now with him being a probably #1 pick. Quinn's stock on the other hand has had the bottom fall out of it. At one time he as thought of as the top player in the class, and while he is in no danger of losing the #2 QB ranking, he is in danger of losing a large sum of money. The difference in salary for the top 2 QB's from last year is almost $1million per season over the next 6 years. And that was only a difference of 7 picks plus both still went in the top ten. If Russell goes #1, the Browns take AD, and the Dolphins feel comfortable with Culpepper then Quinn could easily fall to Carolina at 14 barring a trade-up.

True, but for QB's, individual workouts mean a lot more than the workouts at the combine. I know for example that VY skipped the combine last year (with the danger of VY slipping pretty far if he got past the Titans) and it worked out for him. If Quinn falls, which I think it is likely that he, I don't see how the combine is likely to make a difference in convincing teams of anything that his college career and individual workouts do not tell them.

They mistakenly thought it was a snaking draft like in most fantasy leagues and were trying to get an earlier pick in the even-numbered rounds. :D

I doubt Carolina would take Quinn, sad as that is. :(

And if BQ and JaMarcus had played their own defenses in the final game last season instead of the opposite defenses this wouldn't even be a question. Suddenly a guy that a lot of LSU fans didn't even want to start for their team at QB is the no. 1 overall pick? Oh well, keep Brady away from the Raiders.

If I were the Raiders with that putrid O-Line, I'd trade down and pick up extra picks. Then you can draft a QB later (Stanton, for example). I just think you build the line first, and boy do they need to do that.

Yeah, unless they upgrade that offensive line I can't see any QB succeeding there-I doubt they will able to be trade down (the #1 pick is usually seen as too expensive unless there is a sure-fire person at the top) but they do need to build the line through either later picks or free agency.

with no obvious guy at #1, why wouldn't the Raiders just take Joe Thomas if that 's a need? As you said, I don't know of any team that is clamoring for Quinn or Russell to the point that they'll trade multiple picks just to move up a few slots

Childress said the Vikings would consider taking Quinn with the seventh pick.

Coach Brad Childress said Friday that the Vikings are seriously looking at Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn as a possible pick with the seventh overall selection of the April 28-29 NFL draft.

If he dropped to 7, I would imagine the Vikings would have a tough time justifying any other pick given their pathetic QB situation.

Greg Olsen ran a 4.47 and a 4.45

Joe Thomas (reported by PFT) ran a 4.93 40 which is just absolutely ridiculous.

Uh oh-Thomas is sounding more and more like Gallery :D
