Alright, it's 2 AM, and I don't feel like going back and reading the last five to seven pages of posts that I've missed tonight. But I thought some of you would find this interesting. Me and a couple buddies of mine went out to Kendall's Bar on Lincoln tonight (right by DePaul), and we were there for quite some time. A buddy of mine that I haven't seen for a few months walks over and says, "Hey, get a load of hippie Orton over there." And we all laughed thinking there was some guy that looked like Kyle Orton in the bar. But no, sure enough, we were sitting at the table next to Kyle Orton the whole night, and no one even noticed. Actually, I should say... no one even cared. My buddy kept bumping into him and calling him a jackass the whole time for taking up so much space. Even after we saw him, we made a few jokes about how he shouldn't be at the bar, because the Bears might need him as a replacement waterboy, and then went back to our beers. The bar even played "Bear Down" over the soundsystem, and turned the light on above his table, and still, no one seemed to notice or care. Just thought that was funny.

This story isn't funny in the least bit.

A big reason why the Bears are going to the Super Bowl this year instead of washing out in the first game is because Orton has faded from view.

And that's the bare bones truth baby.

Say what you want about Rex. Orton (or Griese for that matter) don't make those deep throws to Berrian or bring us down the field on their arm alone when the team needs a score.

There's a pretty good chance Kyle's going to be cut at the roster trim-downs next Summer, so I hope you enjoyed your last look at him

I don't see why they would cut him. What's the point? Every team needs a #3 QB.

Because he has little upside and #3 QB is really the place where teams take chances on a guy who hasn't been quantified yet.

I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning and Gov. Blagojevich was on. Blagojevich brought up the numbers of Aikman and Manning's first year as a starting QB and compared it to Grossman's first year as a starting QB in an attempt to argue that Grossman was receiving far too much criticism. Basically he was saying that his first year starting wasn't as much of trainwreck as everyone makes it out to be. It was pretty clear that he wasn't saying that Grossman was going to be or already is better than Aikman or Manning, he was just giving a reason why people should cut him some slack.

Mike Golic quickly disagrees by basically saying "Grossman isn't as good as Manning or Aikman! The stats lie! In the superbowl I think everyone would take Manning over Grossman. If you need to score in the 4th quarter in the superbowl, are you taking Manning or Grossman? I didn't like Grossman coming out of school so I can't agree with you here."

It was embarrassing how badly he missed the point. He continued to bring it up when the other Mike was praising Gov. Blagojevich's preparation for the show/sports knowledge. "He knows a lot, but he's wrong." No, meathead. You completely missed his point. The point he actually made had some validity but the point you thought he was making (Grossman>Manning+Aikman) is wrong.

Wow... yea, they really should be embarrassed. Not only did they miss the point, but it sounds like they're believing the idea that Grossman and Manning had similar numbers THIS year.

Greenburg clearly understood the point being made and made the point that neither of those guys were on teams that were going to do anything whereas Grossman was on a team that could and did make it to the Superbowl. The Bears had a lot more to lose if Grossman sucked and that's why he got more criticism. I thought that was a very fair point.

Golic almost always misses the point. Too many hard hits in his playing days----the mind's not all there anymore.

People, people. Just because someone uses stats from a hall of famer to suggest a point does NOT mean they are saying a player is CURRENTLY on par with those hall of famers! LOL, I love when people try to make that argument. It's the ultimate Red Herring.

If the Governor of Illinois can outwit Golic on sports, then what does that say about Golic :P

Im sick of this crap about the Bears will lose because Manning > Grossman. So what? The Bears RBs are better then the Colts. The Bears Linebackers are way better then the Colts. The Bears special teams is better then the Colts. Besides, Rex Grossman is not playing against Peyton Manning. That's not even an issue.

This game reminds me of an NCAA BCS Championship game. Manning is the Heisman Trophy winner and the other team feels slighted and wants to prove it on the field. This is how it'll play out. The Bears win and then the Press will gush all over Grossman/Bears and tear down Manning. I've seen this show so many times before.

Bears are underdogs, and I believe rightfully so. I'm not complaining about it like I was when people were picking the Seahawks over the Bears.

I really believe Chicago will have to play its best game of the year to win this one. Indy has the edge going in.

If Manning pulls it off, you're going to see gushing over him like crazy. So if the Bears pull off the upset, would it be bad that they would receive praise?

No, not at all why so defensive? I simply stated what I think is going to happen.

For the record, I haven't been hearing all of this "Bears can't beat the Colts" and "the Colts will win because Manning is better than Grossman".

It's amazing to me that since the Colts beat the Patriots that people feel that Manning suddenly has no pressure on him. How does making it to the SB vindicate Peyton for the last 12-13 years of "He can't win the big one"?

No dammit!! You're just trying to bring down the Bears!!!

Seriously, I didn't mean for my response to sound snippy.... 8-)

Push.

Yeah, I tend to agree. If someone has a edge here, it's probably pretty slight.

I would have to agree-the RB's are dead even.

Well, not to nit-pick, but there are 6 or 7 teams in the NFL without a #3 QB (at least there were the last time I heard the stat, either last year or this year), including the Colts. In fact, the Colts #3 is their punter, Hunter Smith.

I doubt that seriously. Orton's struggles were in his true rookie year. He had 10 wins, and has had a year to sit, watch, talk to both Rex and Brian, and learn what it takes to be an NFL quarterback.

My guess is that we have the same 3 quarterbacks next year, or if we draft a middle round/late round QB, I could see Griese being traded and Kyle being #2.

Maybe I'm being a homer, but I think the Bears RBs are better...but thats not taking a lot away from the Colts RBs who I think are good. I think Jones and Addai are about a push, but I think Benson is better then Rhodes

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but there's no way IMHO to definitively judge the RB duos of the game, especially since Addai was used progressively through the season. Both duos had a great regular season and have been solid in the postseason. As big of a fan of Addai as I am right now, I'd say the RB matchup is as even of any matchup in the SB.
