When asked about the health of the pitchers and if Rothchild was at fault:

"You can't blame a pitching coach for that," he said. "You can't blame a strength coach for that. You can blame a manager if he allows a guy to go out there and throw 100, 145 pitches consistently, and all of a sudden he breaks down, and that won't happen.

"I like Larry. Larry is a professional, Larry is organized and Larry really cares about the pitchers. I'll tell you what, he's going to do an outstanding job, this year and in the future."

Nice to hear Lou actually cares about his pitchers and won't over abuse them again like a certain someone...

Prior and Wood aside, I still remember last season when there was barely any time left in the season and we were obviously out of any race, and Dusty left Zambrano out there for like 130-140 the game after he was skipped because his back wasn't feeling right (By the way, Zam was at the Bulls game yesterday sporting dreads, and was alot slimmed down and said he worked hard this offseason to make sure the back or anything else wouldn't be a problem in 07).

Sounds to me like Larry disclosed to Lou that Dusty never listened to him. I hope that's the case, as I want to give Rothschild the benefit of the doubt.

Me too. Larry was never one of Dusty's boys so this would make sense.

I'm going to like Lou.

Actually Lou and the whole coaching staff was really impressive. They really are going to preach fundamentals, pride, swagger, and playing the game the right way. Alan Trammel seemed like a no nonsense type of guy. It was fun hearing what he had to say...And I like everything Rothschilds said. Espcially his view on why so many young pitchers get hurt.

Zambrano's highest pitch count of the season, which was in the final game, was 128.

There is also a quote somewhere out there saying that Dusty didn't listen to Rothschild as far who to bring out of the bullpen. Doesn't sound like Larry was too happy coaching with Dusty.

Actually, he was sporting cornrows, not dreads. And he had a kids XL black t-shirt on...quite comical. When Dan Roan asked him if was staying away from the dessert tray, he (obviously brokenly) said something to the affect of "as long as I work it off tomorrow" :) He said that keeping the weight off makes his back not hurt and that hes feeling really good. And on a side note, the bulls couldnt buy a bucket.

Even before Lou was hired, Bruce had reported that Dusty didn't listen to Larry. I think Dusty saw Larry as an evil that was forced on him; he would have preferred to have Dick Pole as pitching coach.

The crowd gave the comment a huge cheer!

Was that during "meet cubs management" with Jim and Lou? Or another segment because I know they appeared in a different one together. And the "meet cubs management" one is the one that will be DL'able on wgnradio.com. .

Well, I hope Lou doesn't overabuse the pitchers because frankly it's a topic I hate talking about it.

Well alot of (well i should say "some") people who didn't like lou at first did say a few times that lou also abused pitchers. But really from everything he has said it seems like he won't let the pitcher pitch too many pitches. Which is great. With dusty it seemed like he said he'd let the pitcher show signs of slowing down, that was his way of telling when a pitcher was ready to come out.

I'm more shocked about him even playing the final game that long.

I hate you, Dusty.

I also like that Lou said:

''It's something we've talked about,'' Piniella said. ''We're looking to get our best combination of hitters on the field. If Soriano [can play center], that would help.''

It shows me that he's much more in tune with sound baseball logic and strategy than Dusty ever was or Hendry ("I like guys who can catch") is.
