if they wiggle out of this deal, I have just two words: sign him.

Soriano

Derosa

Lee

Bonds

Ramirez

Jones

Barrett

Izturis

Absolutly. I'll go one better and tell Pie he will not be the CF in 2007, so Soriano can play CF all year. Then we can put this lineup on the field...

CF Soriano

RF Murton

1b Lee

LF Bonds

3B Aramis

C Barrett

2B DeRosa

SS Izturis

P ---

I do fear that if this deal with SF falls through the Cardinals could steal Bonds away.

First: No.

Second: Hendry wouldn't go near Bonds, considering the Sosa's situation.

Third: I think Bonds retires, if the Giants are able to back out. Most of the money is spent, and there isn't a market for overpriced egos, who can destroy a clubhouse by merely walking into it. Again, if the Giants back out, I could see Bonds being forced to retire.

No way we should sign him. He may not be able to legally play at all, not to mention the crappy condition of his knees.

I see him going to an American League team.

everybody would be out of their mind to let this guy retire. Suspicions and distractions aside, this guy can still help any major league club. He wants to play. That's why he showed up at the winter meetings. Lower price? you bet.

As I've said before, you don't have to worry or get your hopes up about the Cubs signing him. It ain't going to happen.

I know, it's just fun to dream.

That's like saying it's insane to lock up Gotti. Murders and racketeering aside, that guy still knew how to make money!

Are you really serious?

So I used an extreme example. The point still holds. How can anyone simply brush aside Bonds' obvious drug cheating just for the fact that he can eek out a few more years of performance? Is that what we're reduced to now? Just a bunch of number crunchers, ogling players for their production only, the devil be damned if they even care about having an ounce of integrity?

Are you saying it's impossible to win without worshipping at the altar of Barry Bonds and his BALCO buddies?

hate to be the one to break the news about santa claus to you, but you've likely been rooting for drug users your entire life.

You know, wanting to be the good guys and do the right thing is nice, but it's been a hundred years almost. People have literally lived and died waiting for a World Series win. At this point, I don't care if we had to dig up Cap Anson's bones and clone him to win a world title. I'd honor his every achievement with a one fingered salute and proudly say "a win is a win".

If he is on the market next month at a bargain rate, and we don't take him, it's another failure by Hendry. Win now Jimbo. Remember that.

Wow, so who cares then right? Let's hire the biggest drug user of them all, 'cuz after all everyone's doing it!

Everyone's doing it anyway. So that's where we're at in this country now? Lovely.

It'll be one of the biggest success stories of Jimbo's tenure as GM.

Believe me, if Barroid can't lift the Giants to a WS championship, he's not going to do anything for us either.

exactly.

and the best part is, no one on the cubs has or is taking performance enhancers, so we can really enjoy the team purity!

Hey, if we can find a Cub who is cheating, then by all means let's find another option.

None of that means we should knowingly hire roid pumpers.

No, it means lets no pass up an incredible ballplayer and production in the lineup that we can ill afford to lose. Pass it up just becuase the guy probably had train-tracks on his rump at one time.

Who cares, a 1000 OPS with a .400+ OBP still counts no matter if the biggest jerk on earth is swinging the bat.

Bonds in our lineup would equal murderers row on the NL. Add him to our current mix and you may have just written your check for the postseason.

I don't care if he has to put a paper bag over his head when he bats for the shame. I want that OBP.

Not going to happen, I know, but it's because of idealistic nonsense, not a good enough reason to keep us away.

Maybe Bonds needs his secert formula and the Giants know this. Am I the only one that remembers how horrible he looked early in the year?

I'd rather do it like the Red Sox - good signings of quality ballplayers.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Barry Bonds in our lineup - but where is he going to play? Would it be worth the investment? Who would be out? Murton is our Left Fielder. Murton can't play CF or RF, so if we were to have Bonds it would mean Murton was out. Bonds is not going to come cheap either. Legal and physical difficulties very well may mean a cut in playing time. The distractions it would bring to the tiny Cub clubhouse would make Sammy Sosa look like Mother Teresa.

I don't see Bonds even playing in 2007 if the Giants don't come to terms with him. Maybe I'm crazy.

Seriously, do you really think that? The guy barely plays anymore. I want OBP too, but not at the cost of looking like an organization that will stoop to any levels.

Did McGwire equal murderer's row for the Cards in his last season? That's what Barry is now. He's McGwire, juicing his last batch to eek out a few more ABs.

Besides, I think Murt breaks out this season. Barry would take ABs away from Murt for absolute certain.

Bonds had 15 fewer PA than Murton last year. So it doesn't make much sense to say he "barely plays anymore". He had an OPS+ of 156 last year, while Big Mac had a 106 in his last year. So it doesn't make much sense to say that's what Barry is now.
