I haven't seen this posted anywhere, and I couldn't decide if it belonged here or baseball discussions, but here it is anyway...

The Tribune Co., which owns the Cubs, is for sale. Jerry Colangelo, who has previously expressed interest in the club, told the Daily Southtown that he’s “monitoring what's happening” but would not be interested in purchasing the entire company. He would consider owning the Cubs "a dream come true." Colangelo has already won a World Series as owner of the Diamondbacks and has been to the NBA Finals as the chairman and CEO of the Phoenix Suns.

This from CBS Sportsline. Colangelo, huh? Hadn't heard his name until now. How would that fit?

I think Colangelo would spend a lot of money. Not sure if he'd spend it wisely though.

Isn't he the one that nearly had the team bankrupt a year or two after winning the World Series?

He did bring in Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson, at least he footed the bill. :D

Colangelo and the whole D-backs front office are changing their way of drafting players. They are going to take more high school players than they have ever did. They are also going with the kids who show more potential than ability. It would be interesting to see if he would take this strategy to the Cubs if he bought the organization.

Colangelo sold out of the DBacks.

He was only the head of a group that owned the DBacks, not the sole owner. I'm not sure he has the personal financial wealth to buy the club on his own. I think he would once again have to head up a group, and those are the ownership groups that tend to be the least stable.
