Dish is SO much easier to use and offers access to its many option with 1 push of a button. No matter how much I want EI, its not worth screwing up my wife's entertainment. So much for EI.

Whipped, allergic to superior technology, or both?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A proposal to make Major League Baseball's "Extra Innings" exclusive to DirecTV has drawn the ire of Sen. John Kerry.

The Massachusetts Democrat said he plans to raise the matter with the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission at a hearing Thursday.

"I am opposed to anything that deprives people of reasonable choices," Kerry said in a statement. "In this day and age, consumers should have more choices - not fewer. I'd like to know how this serves the public - a deal that will force fans to subscribe to DirecTV in order to tune in to their favorite players. A Red Sox fan ought to be able to watch their team without having to switch to DirecTV."

Figures.

This is spectacular news.....Kerry...you get this fixed and I'd consider supporting you for President....or better yet...get this fixed, and Don't run for president...let someone who can actually win have a chance.

Excuse me, but Kerry actually won in 2004. He had the election stolen from him just like Gore before him. BTW He's already said he's not running anyway. I don't blame him after the injustice that was done to him, and all of america on that day.

Well, other than the fact that you are wrong on every level I agree with you.

That's right. Bush can win when the chairwoman of his campain is also in charge of the vote count, halts the vote in florida when 179,855 have not yet been counted. Did you know that? Did you read that in one of yoru history books? They did it again in Ohio. Corruption happens in politicts. Get over it.

See Moore, this is why we don't bring up politics here. Well I'll stop now, I'm outta this thread.

My last post on this (until it is moved to rants) so as to not further derail the thread.

Show me Gore or Kerry's presidential bios. Until then, Bush won in 2000 and 2004. Kerry has won Zero Presidential elections, Gore has won Zero, Bush has won Two.

Welcome to reality.

QFT.

I'm just glad its getting some congressional attention...I honestly don't care what party or person is bringing it up.

So i still don't get it. DTV is more superior because of HD programming? Don't you have to purchase an HD TV and then purchase the HD receiver and then pay extra for the programming?

Sounds like a HUGE scam to me and completely not worth it. Yeah i get the picture quality is better and all but why pay a ton extra for something that really means little impact to everyday life.

Hehe....I see you don't have HD.

You really need to experience HDTV. You'll see why it's so much better than regular.

Lots of things we pay for aren't necessities----what does that have to do with anything?

As for DirecTV and HD, DirecTV has Sunday Ticket which offers a ton of HD NFL games from around the country, it now has EI which will supposedly offer more HD games than anyone else. It's a matter of which carrier is offering the most HD programming, not that DirecTV is inherently better for HD.

This'll get about as much attention in congress as the slaughter in Sudan. I.E. zilch.

of course Kerry is wrong. Red Sox fans in the Boston area will get all the games.

And your point is? Obviously local fans can still watch their team, making that claim is absurd, and pointless. The fact is MLB is taking away a previous choice that MLB fans nationwide had. They are limiting options instead of expanding upon them.

and as MLB owns the broadcasting rights to it's games, they can do whatever they want. If they only want one person in Wyoming to be able to watch games, that's their choice.

In case anyone locally needed ANOTHER reason (or two) to switch to DirecTV:

Adelphia cable was bought out by Comcast. Comcast comes in and changes ALL the channels around. This pisses people off. Now they just announced that on March 6th they are changing them all back.

Second, since Comcast hasn't negotiated a deal with WMAJ (local CBS affiliate), no one with Comcast in this area will be able to see the HD broadcast of the Super Bowl tomorrow.

that's not the point, at all. we know this is MLB's choice. a lot of us think it's a very dumb thing to do.

Baseball should be offering this to any dish/cable provider that wants it and selling it for as cheap as possible to get as many sucscribers as possible.

It is amazing to me that marketers haven't figured out by now that the more people you get to watch games the more the interest grows and ticket sales and merchandise sales increase.

Seems like MLB is getting their broadcasting advice from Bill "don't show any home games on TV so I don't give away my product" Wirtz. It's worked out pretty well for him, huh? That UC is really rocking for Blackhawk games.

Actually no, if you read back in the thread you will see some who think this should be taken to court, or congress.

lol for including the OS X dock

Except of course that mlb.com doesn't really like Safari, and the media player doesn't work well even if using Firefox. At least that was my experience last year.

I hope they improve the service. It needs it.

Nice post. That's exactly what should be happening, but I doubt anyone ever accuses Bud Selig of being a rocket scientist.

Clearly Selig/MLB would not enter into this contract if they weren't going to profit from it. I'm not sure all you amateur economists know all the facts here

I'm sure he will profit from it. It's the next generation who will get screwed as baseball gets less attention. Bud doesn't care about them or us. Only himself.

Just like all us amateurs have no right to question the decisions of gm's and managers. Because we all know the guys who have the jobs are always the best guys at doing their jobs.

So are we to assume you are a professional economist with access to all the facts?

The way I see it, for one million per team, they are cutting the audience for the EI package by 2/3 to 3/4 of the previous year. Dollarwise a win, exposure wise a huge loss.

I guess I'll spend the $160 on something else this year.
