MIAMI (AP) -- The Florida Marlins and infielder Aaron Boone agreed to a $925,000, one-year contract on Friday, a move that gives one of baseball's youngest clubhouses another veteran and additional depth.

Boone, who turns 34 next March, hit .251 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs in 104 games at third base last season for Cleveland In addition to his base salary, he could earn an additional $350,000 in performance bonuses.

A decent veteran signing for the Marlins.

Why?

Boone adds veteran experience to a young Marlins club. He also could be that power threat from the right side off the bench for the Marlins.

In other words, he's "Jeff Conine 2007"

The Cubs need some right handed pop off the bench as well.

That's gonna be Murton after Floyd finally signs! :D

(Yes, I'm being sarcastic)

(sort of)

You might be right, but they still need a David Bell type (depending on cost).

Who has experience playing 3B beyond Ramirez of the likely 25 man roster?

Cesar!

DeRosa too, but right now unless they put Murton in a platoon situation, the bench isn't much better than years past. If you have an IF of Derosa, Izturis, Cedeno/Theriot, and Lee for any extended time, you're counting on no injuries from Ramirez. At least with someone like Bell, there's a chance to tread water.

My guess is that if something happened to Ramirez, they would move DeRosa there or give Moore a shot.

Starting Derosa at 3B, still leads them to having Theriot/Cedeno replacing Ramirez.

To me, they still a need a 4th OF'er and a RH'ed 3B off the bench.

In an emergency situation, they cover 3B with DeRosa and Izzy. If it is an extended injury, they call up Moore.
