IMO the White Sox are going to aquire Andruw Jones. I think they stockpiled enough young talent to get him from the Braves.

And, the Braves will get enough in the White Sox deal to turn around and get Baldelli.

This whole Andruw Jones thing's got me thinking.

I know this will never ever happen, but imagine...

Murton is used as the centerpiece for AJones, along with, say, Howry and Marshall. Maybe it's a three-way deal, since Murton might not be what ATL really is after.

For 2007...

Sign Floyd to play LF

Keep JJones in RF and AJones in CF

Ask Soriano to move back to 2B for a year (here's the most unrealistic part)

Ask DeRosa to move around -- platoon with Jones in RF vs LHP, keep Floyd fresh once or twice a week in LF, play 2B once a month, 3B once a month.

For 2008 and beyond...

Phase Pie into CF; phase JJones out

Phase EPat into 2B, move Soriano to LF, phase Floyd out

Re-sign AJones and transition him to RF

Keep DeRosa in the superutility role

Both scenarios give you 2 LHH and 2 RHH, between 2B and OF ==> lineup balance achieved (or at least improved).

Murton had a 912 OPS in the second half of last year.

Andruw Jones had an 894 OPS last year.

I'm not saying that Murton is going to outproduce Jones and there definitely is a wide defensive margin, but considering how long we would have each under our control and for what price, there is no way I'm trading Murton for Andruw.

It is a regional slang usage. I've been around family lately and I'm not paying nearly as much attention to my usage as I should.

Might could someone tell me what is wrong with regional slang? Any of y'all might could respond.

Apparently you forgot the "I hate Scott Boras, and will never deal with his clients ever again" proclamation he made awhile back. The White Sox only has one Boras client on their teams, (Joe Crede), I believe, and the only reason why they haven't moved him yet, is because of two reasons: 1. there isn't a credible stopgap replacement on the FA market and 2. Josh Fields isn't ready. So I doubt Andruw Jones goes to the White Sox.

That's a pretty good point.

Except of course if they don't plan on resigning Andruw, then it doesnt matter who is agent is because they will never have to talk to him.

He will if he expects to get Jones/Boras to waive the NTC.

Forget it. I'm not going to say you have a good point again, even though you all make good points. :D

I don't see the Sox breaking their vow this soon in the ballgame. Maggs has only been gone 2 years.

A team attempting to trade for Andruw might be required to add a really hefty extension in order to get him to waive his no trade clause, anyway. He's probably not going anywhere. You have the no trade clause. Atlanta will want more than they can probably get for a 1 year rental. Andruw can afford to be picky about what teams he would waive his no trade clause for. Teams that can't get an extension or the extension would be too steep may not be willing to part with the necessary players to get a deal done. And I'm probably missing something else in there somewhere.

I'm surprised Tejada isn't a bigger topic of discussion if he is available. A shortstop that produces like he does is exactly what the Cubs need. But, what do we have to offer? Not enough.

I really don't think an extension will be needed to get Andruw to waive his no-trade clause; Boras will want to shop him on the open market next season.

What will be asked for is concessions. Boras may ask that Andruw be given a 2-5 million bonus to waive his no-trade which would bring his salary into the 18 million range for next season. Boras could ask that Andruw receive perks like the ones Soriano received such as his own suite on the road, the team pays to fly his family to Chicago for a certain number of times, a certain amount of tickets, etc.

Exactly. Boras' whole strategy is playing teams off one another (or the appearance of playing teams off of one another). His main goal is to get to the open market ASAP. While he and the Whitesox do not have the best relationship, if its best for his client and best for his own pocketbook, he will do it. Moving to one of the best HR hitters parks in the league will definitely help his case in free agency. Its not probable, but its possible.

But he stilll need the White Sox cooperation, cause everybody knows Kenny Williams will rarely, if ever now, deal with him. Not even Boras could convince teams that the White Sox are interested in A. Jones, when everybody in MLB knows of Williams dislike of Boras. So, I seriously doubt, Williams is going to play along with Boras.

A) Williams deals with Boras every year on Crede

B) Boras doesnt care if the white sox are interested in Andruw once he becomes a FA. At that point it doesnt matter who Andruw played for in 2007. He can sign with any team. I don't see why he needs the white sox cooperation.

One of Kenny Williams' assistants actual negotiates with Boras over Crede. He stays out of it.

Semantics. Fine then one of KW's assistants can tell Boras that the White Sox are kicking in a bonus for the waiving of the NTC.
