Is there anything worse than listening to Sean Salisbury talking football?

yes... listening to merrill hoge talking football

I don't think I've heard him speak, outside draft day, in quite a long time. Does he still work with Jaws and Kolber?

Yes, and I get the impression he doesn't like Vince Young. Just a hunch.

Sean Salisbury just said on NFL live that he thinks in a Super Bowl - Neutral Site - warm weather type of game, that any of the top AFC team would be the Bears. He picked the Colts, Bengals, Chargers, Ravens, Jaguars and Patriots would all beat the Bears.

Eric Allen thought the Bears could beat the Colts and Jags, but agreed on the rest.

That sucks that they think that but who cares? I'm not speaking to you in general Banedon, but I don't see why people get so worked up about what some talking head on TV says about their team. It's not going to make the Bears any less likely to win the Super Bowl.

he's also picked the Steelers 12 out of 13 games this year in the ESPN expert picks. They're 12-1 right? oh wait never mind they're 6-7, too damn bad Merrill.

-he has a disdain for any team that relies more on the pass than on the run

-he hates all the AFC central teams as well as the Eagles, and goes out of his way to find ridiculous reasons why those teams won't win

-he doesn't realize that teams can do things differently than they did back

in the late 80s and early 90s - and still win.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that he doesn't like black people.

Wouldn't surprise me, to be honest. He definitely has an irrational hatred for running quarterbacks. Vince Young had the third best passer rating in college football last year, but I think Merrill hates him because he isn't the conventional pocket passer and uses his legs to make things happen. Salisbury is kind of a fool, but Merrill Hoge really makes him look like a football guru.

Good piece on Grossman and the Bears in SI.

I couldn't have put it any better myself.

only problem I have with that article is he doesn't lump in Fox, especially Joe Buck, for being the original and most persistant windbags in this whole affair.

So true. Buck was doing the same with Eli on Sunday. All he ever does is harp on the same thing over and over and over over the course of a telecast.

Man, they focused those cameras on Plaxico and Shockey the whole time, just waiting for reaction shots.

They sure did. The transformation of sports from athletic competition to soap opera has been disappointing to witness.

I can't figure out if Joe Buck or Bryant Gumbel is worse. Only Tirico and Michaels still have enough self-respect to simply call the ball game instead of going for the ratings by player-bashing.

The Bears added safety Nick Turnbull, who was waved from Atlanta, to the roster.

An additional week away, but Kevin Jones is out for the season for the Lions with a broken foot.

Excellent article. There's no doubt that the other playoff-caliber teams in the league will destroy the Bears if he repeats his performance against one of them, but he's also the type who can get hot and compensate for a lagging defense should it be called for.

I'm nowhere near as optimistic now of the Bears winning it all as I was after 5 or 7 weeks, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see it.

The thing about this article that surprised me the most was the mention of Hester as a possible rookie of the year. Would a huge year of special teams be enough to snag it from some of the others? Hopefully he pads his season with another return or two, and then shows up on offense in the remaining three tune-up games. With Grossman's propensity to go deep, teams would have to respect the deep threat with Hester lining up, so if nothing else, checking down would be a gift first down, and once in a while take a shot for shots and giggles.

man, I don't know how much of this game I'll be able to watch. I've got a family Christmas thing :( Hopefully i'll be able to catch some.

Nothing says family holiday Christmas time bonding like whipping up a batch of hot chocolate, gathering the whole family close, and cozying in around the warm soft flickering glow of the TV during a Bears game.

I'm thinking Hester might be more useful on screens and reverses than actually going deep. If anything, Berrian and Bradley stretch the field out and we go to Hester on that checkdown for who knows how many yards. Agree with everything else.

On the 17th? Wouldn't you have a family thing going on for the following game (Lions, I think)? Or are you celebrating early?

Exactly. I can easily see Hestern on a reverse/end around.

Man, I loved those two screens the Bears ran yesterday.

I agree with that. I'd like to see him on the route that Berrian took for six yesterday about 3 or 4 times per game. get him the ball in situations where if he makes one guy miss it goes for big yards.
