are these all just rumors or have there been actual discussion?

i see it posted all over the place, and he would probably fare well in wrigley, but haven't really seen much on other 'news' sites.

rotoworld speculation on the matter:

With Jason Schmidt reportedly choosing the Dodgers, it's more likely that Brad Penny will be dealt this winter.

As things stand now, the Dodgers have a rotation of Schmidt, Penny, Derek Lowe, Randy Wolf and Chad Billingsley. Penny's departure would put Mark Hendrickson, Hong-Chih Kuo and Brett Tomko back into the mix. Penny is owed $18 million over the next two years or $24.75 million for the next three years, making him something of a bargain in this market.

Other than that, it's been rumored that he would go to Boston in a deal for Manny.

here you go:

The Dodgers are already shopping Brad Penny, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Penny has been mentioned as a possibility for the Red Sox in a Manny Ramirez deal, but nothing it likely to happen there. Some of the teams that could seek Penny include the Mets, Blue Jays, Cubs, Yankees, Phillies, Rangers, Mariners, Cardinals, A's, Astros, Reds and Brewers. The Dodgers could use him to bring in a corner outfielder or maybe exchange him for bullpen help.

I don't understand Coletti. He's the most baffling GM out there. He has Kemp, Loney, and Ethier -- all of whom can play corner OF spots -- and he's looking for more corner OF help?

Baffling.

So let's get on this...

They want a corner outfielder? Well Colletti, we have just the guy for you...

Hi Ned, since you like former Cubs so much, We'll give you Jones and some prospects for Penny

Think Jones+Marshall would get it done?

Probably not but its wishful thinking

Jones, Eyre and one of Marmol, Mateo, Marshall, etc. for Penny.

I'd totally do that. Would LA?

It is Colletti...maybe they need a crappy infielder to spice things up. Let's add Izturis.

>_>

They might as well give us one of them young punks in their outfield too if they are going to totally block them all.

Let's combine our ideas:

CHC gets: Penny, Ethier/Kemp/Loney

LA gets: Jones, Marshall/Marmol/Mateo, Izturis

Fine with me... :)

My guess is LA would love to get their hands on a guy like Izturis. And if they did get their hands on him, they'd certainly hold on to him for the long haul, because he'd be so important to them.

So they want a corner outfielder and bullpen help....hmmmm. Jones, Eyre, Dempster, Marshall....Maybe they'd even throw in Kemp since they dont seem willing to give him a shot.

Not to mention they can't play any of those three in center because of Slappy.

Right. And they're looking at Luis Gonzalez.

He is a bottom 5 GM in the majors imo.

Is it me or would the Reds be a good trade partner for Penny? I could see them shipping Dunn off for him.

Then again, it depends on how Ned Colletti feels about the situation...
