Lilly, but it's unacceptable to just add one of them. We need two starters. If it's not either of these two, I doubt we can acquire two other competent starters by means of trade.

Ewwww.....um...Meche, I guess. Only because he's theoretically a power pitcher, and he's RH, and the best hitters in our division are RH.

I agree with all of this. The Jones for Penny trade proffered in a different thread sounds interesting, but then the Cubs definitely need to find someone for CF.

This actually isn't that easy for me. Lilly has been better, and is more reliable. Meche does have some potential, and his K-rate increased significantly, along with a few of his other peripherals. If there's a guy who will surprise and actually earn the exorbitant contract he'll get, it's probably Meche. On the other hand, he really hasn't been that good the past four years, and he's a larger injury risk. It could end up being four years of what the Yankees have gotten out of Carl Pavano. Meche is probably a higher reward, but also a higher risk.

I'd go with Lilly, because I think when you pay this much for a pitcher, you want something a little more reliable. But I could see arguments for both (and obviously, against both).

Say it once and for all...if you had to make a choice, who would you rather have: Gil Meche or Ted Lilly.

You should have put this in Polls. :-)

I asked Jim Callis this very question in his chat today on ESPN.com and he said Lilly. He went on to say that Meche's injury history concerns him.

Milli

gee goony, i'm flattered

on a more serious note, I'd take Meche

Awww...get a room....

8-) just kidding.

Meche is more talented, and Lilly is less crappy. I'd take Angel Guzman and Sean Marshall.
