Badelli is a clone of Matt Murton..Only not orange and alot cooler name..

Baldelli has better bat speed, much better runner, better range in the OF, Murton has a much better approach at the plate and a better arm. They each have similar raw power, but Baldelli showcases it more.

Murton has a lower ceiling than Baldelli but is more likely to reach his ceiling than Baldelli.

I think Baldelli's name, and toolsiness, probably means he's going to cost a lot more than he's worth. He is somebody I wouldn't mind having on the team, but he's not somebody I'd like to see Jim Hendry trade for.

I have no interest whatsoever in Baldelli. He's one of Felix Pie's top comparables in multiple projection systems, for one thing. Why trade for a guy when we already have a similar player in the system.

Because Pie won't do it 2007. It's that simple. Baldelli's contract is such that he could be moved in 2008 clearing the way for Pie.

Or Pie could be moved this year while he still has value.

If I was TB (boy that sounds odd), Hill would have to be included in the trade and going from there.

thought you didn't like hill? :D

An interested team likely would have to give up at least two young, frontline major-league-ready players who are three or more years from free agency.

why would a team have to give up two young, frontline major-league-ready players who are three or more years from free agency to get one such player?

Hill would be a good starting point, I didn't say straight-up.

If LAA didn't get Sarge Jr. and they were interested in Rocco, I think a Santana straight-up for Baldelli would benefit TB.

from everything i've read, hill is untouchable in hendry's eyes (for good reasons imo).

On XM 175 they are saying that Baldelli may be avaible if TB moves Upton to CF.

He's going to be 25 next year but is comming off an injury. He's not an OBP guy but plays a pretty good CF, is cheap and not in his prime yet.

I have no idea what it would take to get him, but I'd be interested. Anyone else?

now why would TB's GM go leaking this in the press. they just totally destroyed the value of Baldelli.

Tampa had opportunities to improve their pitching staff at the deadline last year with Lugo, Huff, Hendrickson and Hall, but they got very little in return in regards to pitching. They got more good prospects on the offensive side of things, but how much more do they really need right now when it's already too crowded?

A 3 pitching prospect trade for a guy like Carl Crawford or Rocco Baldelli would have been way better than trading for 1 year rental Juan Pierre.

Doesn't necessarily mean that Tampa is smart enough to make that deal, but there aren't many teams that are going to trade frontline starting pitching prospects for outfielders.

They totally lucked out on the Kazmir deal, and I think it's spoiled them.

About the only team I can think of that a deal with a Tampa outfielder would make a little sense is Pittsburgh, who have a lot of young pitchers to offer.

So, you believe Jones wanting out of Chicago is the same thing as Tampa having a crowded outfield?

More than what the Cubs have to offer....

An interested team likely would have to give up at least two young, frontline major-league-ready players who are three or more years from free agency. It would have to have the type of potential impact players the Rays are seeking, especially frontline starting pitchers. And it would have to share the Rays' view that there is compensatory value not only in Baldelli and Crawford's talent, but in their contracts -Crawford tops out at a $10-million salary in 2010, Baldelli at $9-million in 2011.

jjgman, please read above

That's how you makle a leak.
